Hmm

Well everything the Mayor has done has come good but its going to look very bare down there now and I think bars will suffer a little as people shopped while hubby drank

I loved that bit of the night..a good meal and a stroll into the tents to haggle with the lovely people down by the canal. Is this a little bit more being taken away from the magic that Icmeler is?

very sad day for icmeler and the stall holders, icmeler is famous for the canal and the market stalls, i fear part of the magic will disappear along with the stalls.

Just informed my wife, shes not happy, we only go down there a couple of times but we do enjoy browsing while walking off the meal, if the rumours are true in that they are moving up towards the market area there will be very little trade.

Please dont do it!!!! We love our evening walk with a few purchases along the way!!! The canal atmosphere is great, there is no way we would walk up to the market area in the evening.... the stall holders can not be happy?? We have been going to Icmeler for at least 10 years and if they keep doing these kind of things the atmosphere is going to change so much we might to have a rethink!! we go in july and will wait and see to make a decision.

Such a shame to hear the stalls are being removed. That was part of the Icmeler magic, strolling along the canal, having a bit of banter with the stall holders and buying gifts. Then popping in for an Efes or Vodka on the numerous Bars/Restaurants.

It wont be the same down there.

Exactly, reesy - the stalls were part of the charm of that part of Icmeler. I'm sure most visitors enjoyed strolling down the canal and browsing both during the day and in the evening. Won't be the same at all without them. :(

I cant see the stall holders making such a good living if they are up by the market, its only on market days that the majority of the crowds venture up that far.

Lets hope the Mayor changes his mind, if he is the one that has instigated the change.

We also thought that last year several restaurants would disappear.
Example Erdem. but that was reopened.
maybe they will build new stalls

let's hope

New stalls in the same area would be marvellous.

There is nothing wrong with your English Nick :D

Hi Nick - I agree, let's hope they do put new stalls there. Changes can sometimes be for the good, but I do think that losing the stalls from the canal area altogether would be a mistake.

Don't forget that those stalls where "new" and everyone was up in arms when they changed them from their old tatty quaint look to the new revamped one with electric shutters so hopefully its another upgrade

I really hope these stalls are just being refurbished. Like many others, I've always enjoyed strolling round there after my evening meal. Also bought quite a few pieces of silver jewellery which always reminds me of the magical icmeler when I wear it. Would obviously have to visit the stalls in their new setting if they are moved but I think the stall holders would lose out on the passing trade. I know there have been many occasions when I've spotted something during one of my evening walks and then returned to make a purchase during the days following. Just can't wait for my next trip now :)

Along with all the other comments by Icmelerites, I am also sorry to see the demise of the stalls. I well remember when I first visited Icmeler, they were canvas and just closed at night, not even locked! Hopefully, they will be replaced; don't know where I will find my towel/tea towel lady! Thanks Nick for the info on Erdem; pleased to read my lunchtime soiree will still be there. :D

I will be so sorry to see the stalls go we used to have a walk along the canal on a night just to pass the time away before we went for our meal it was so nice just browsing & having a chat to some of the stall holders.
When we were there last year one night the police came along & made the stall holders move their tables & seats that they had out. Mabe this is not the image that the mayor wants but it is what we like & have got used to with the stall holders sitting together talking & even having their meals where they sell their goods .
Please keep the stalls Mr Mayor. :(

I have posted some pics on photo gallery of the stalls being dismantled. There is talk of them being re-located along the road that connects the council offices and Icmeler bus station. Only a rumour but if correct then they would certainly lose the charm that they had!

Guess this might be the start of the mayors program to upmarket Icmeler to designer shops etc. think its a mistake ,and a lot of regulars will go somewhere else, i hope not but who knows?

I totally agree with you. Why they need to alter things is beyond me. The canal stalls were part of the Icmeler magic. Lets hope that the new Mayor does not make Icmeler all arty farty because as you say, a lot of regular goers to Icmeler will be put off by this. It will be such a shame :(

just been talking to my friend on facebook who has one, he says they may be moving them up to the post office area, so he is looking for a small shop as not many people will go up there each night, such a shame i spend most of my evenings down there talking to him
