There are ATM's at a few banks and also a group of ATM's in the square in the centre.

Boat taxi's are every 30 minutes to and from Marmaris, last year they were 15Lira return, I think they finish between 5 and 6,

We like to get the water taxi over to Marmaris and then come back by Dolmus which are frequent upto 1am,

atm cash points...... use them in a bank or outside the bank where they have a security guard, example if you make a mistake, and it takes your card ,the bank will have it. my wife used the atm in the square,it was scammed, gobbled up and we never saw it again.nearly 1,000 pounds went from our a/c .[lloyds reimbursed every penny when we got back to the UK] but it put the mockers on our holiday, and the running around in marmaris was silly ,banks ,police stations, you name it,and nobody spoke english,we had to pay for an interpreter. be warned my friend. BILL

PS we still go twice a year, but with lessons well and truly learned.

I went to an ATM booth in the square a couple of years ago with a Turkish friend and it was stifling- like walking into an oven! Really unbearably hot. It was very unfortunate what happened to Bill, I always get money out at the ones outside a bank when the bank is open......even here in the UK thats what I do unless I am really desperate.

I have an account at TEB bank and also HSBC and they have both English speaking people and I have on occassion found people that have had their cards gobbled and I myself took these people to the banks in Marmaris.

Once explained to them they tell the people to come back at a certain time the next day and their card will be returned to them.

I suppose losing your card in a machine can happen anywhere but remember that those 2 banks are friendly and easy to get to in Marmaris if there is a mishap.

jt just to be a little clearer jimmy from the okimo [jimmys] saved my life at the HBSC with the language problem, but the next day at the police station my wife had to make an appointment, and jimmy could not make it.so afee was charged for the interpreter BILL

PS. we waited till the cash point men returned from their runs that night [5.30/6.00] but the card was not found in the ATM in the square.so our wait at HBSC cost a full half day at the bank. HBSC did inform Lloyds UK for me and stopped the card, but just short of 1,000 pound had gone more or less straight away at migros.{they don,t hang about these thiefs.

Sorry Bill but I still am not sure what you are saying.

Ah yes I am.

You were scammed but for people that just lose their card in the machine the do below

If you lose your card in a machine there is no reason to wait.

You go to the bank in Marmaris then tell them you lost it.

They will tell you what time the next day to pick your card up.

So if you lose your card do as above

john it was a sunday .the banks are shut. my wife thought the card had been taken in the atm. machine but thats not the case ,or the bank lads on there run would have found it. the thief must do something very clever, then go back and get it out some how,and use it . gaffer of the ida cafe [pension] gave her 100 pound to tide her over till monday,he said it often happens in the square to tourists. Hmm well I must have been very lucky at the cash machines as I use them quite a bit through the week and am there 6 months of the year.

If this is the case and its happening all the time then I will keep a look out this year for anyone hanging around them.

They all have cameras on them so you would think someone would have been caught in the act doing it.

I hate using atms in any country really as we are always reading stories about bad people doing naughty things with them but needs must sometimes

sueles you may well ask ? as the atm chaps did not find it in the machine the next day,and it did not come out when my wife used it in the square,we can only quess, that some thing is placed in the slot before she used the atm,her card is scammed and held in the machine.then when its clear to go back to the atm,he has away of getting it back out, then off he goes to migros on a spending spree.the pin number always makes me think, either he had a way of getting it,or migros trade without them? she was in the kiosk ,only with kate our family friend. a mystery ,but their are some very clever people about. 3 cheers for Lloyds . when we got home ,the money was back in the a/c and new debit cards waiting. I believe the way they get hold of the card is by placing a completely false front onto the ATM machine with a bit of electrical gizmo in it that records the PIN number used. Your card never actually goes into the bank's machine - only the false bit in the front. Thief hangs around close by, waits until a few people have used the machine then comes and collects his kit with the cards and off to Migros (the bugger is probably getting points on his Migros Card as well). Hence the bank cannot return the card as it never entered their machine. No idea how the thief avoids any CCTV.

we used the cash machines in the square several times last year and year before with no problems at all, there was a girl in front of us in queue at bank who had her card swallowed by machine, a good 15 or 20 mins later the card came back out, luckily she had hung about as one of the taxi drivers at the office beside the bank was phoning the bank in Mamaris for her. Im not sure what time the taxi boats start in the morning, but the dolmus is really cheap and runs every 5 or 10 mins until at least 1 or 1.30 am and only costs 1.5 to 2 lira.

Boats taxi starts about 9am

Taxis are between 25-30 Lira depending where in Marmaris you are, after Midnight they increase dramitically in price, not sure if it 1.5 or 2 x normal fare.
