Placement

Postby jesslbr7 » 29 Oct 2010 00:02

Hi, Im currently at University studying International Tourism Management BA(Hons). For my third year of study, I have to go on an International work placement for 48 weeks (basically a year or more) and there is no other place I would rather go than Icmeler. Iv been to Icmeler 4 times in total now, but for the past 3 years I have been visiting Hisaronu. Now Iv come to really miss Icmeler, and after browsing the gallery, Iv realised I really really wish to return as I dont think it can be beaten by any other resort. With these two factors in mind I hope to gain a work placement in Icmeler/Marmaris starting in May 2011 for a year/year and a half. I know gaining a work permit in the country is hard, but iv done my research to find that it should be easier for me as it will be part of my university studies so this shouldnt be too much of a problem. Iv also worked in a hotel for around 4 years, got tourism knowledge and also completed a Turkish language course so I can now speak a bit of the language. Ok, Il get to the main point now.. does anyone know of any place that may employ me for my work placement in either Icmeler, or Marmaris if there is nothing in Icmeler? I really dont fancy doing my work placement in the typical places such as America and Spain like most other people. Help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s Sorry for the essay!!

I do not know if this will be possible because as far as I know we are not allowed to work there and do a job that a Turkish person could do, not legally anyway. Perhaps you could contact the Turkish embassy and find out for sure the rules/law etc on this subject. Even if this was possible and allowed then wintertime would be a problem, especially in Icmeler as the resort apart from a few chosen places is closed.

Yeah Im already aware about the working situation as an English citizen, but iv been doing research and as this job would be part of my degree this should be easier as I would be working under a student permit or something along them lines. Im also aware about winter closure, which is why im willing to stretch my search to Marmaris as I know many places still stay open throughout winter there. I know im probably hoping for too much, but this really would be a dream for me :(

i tried to get a job in icmeler this year as i was there for 13 weeks and it proved really difficult as not many people were willing to take me on as i didnt apply for a permit
the police were clamping down on people working without permits especially the reps so i wouldnt consider doing it unless you had a permit
but maybe repping is an option for the summer months

Yeah I understand.. but as its my university placement and I would also be studying while im there.. it seems there is a possibility that I would be exempt from needing a permit, but the wording of this exemption is rather confusing on the Turkish embassy website.. so iv emailed the Turkish embassy explaining my situation and hopefully they can give me the right answer.. Fingers crossed that I'm exempt!! It would make finding a Job so much easier! xx
