The information would not have been of use to anyone else but Skilly as it was offered only to that person.

Problem is we have our own safes but we do not hire them out to the general public.

It was more of a favour but with all the questions that came back well hey whats the point of being nice.

Would I offer a safe if the safe was not safe.

Are we getting bored people there are lots of things to talk about on the forum without jumping in and saying thats not called for and I agree.

At the time I thought it was called for and still do so lets just leave it at the eh

I liked the idea of spreading out valuables in different places - I think I'd forget where I'd put them though! If you look on websites for other parts of the world there's many more instances of theft than in Turkish resorts and Icmeler. We're used to taking precautions at home so the best thing to do is - the same and that includes flashing cash when you're out as well and carrying valuables around with you (ie passports). The last few times in Icmeler I've locked all valuables away in my suitcase and kept the key on me. In the event anyone got into my room I think they'd assume that would be empty - but hey who knows! My son works for a bank and he takes Turkish lire then uses the cashpoint. Now, I can see my passport on an open shelf in front of me here- I think I need to think of putting that safe given the crime rate.

June you hit it spot on there, we are used to taking these precautions at home so why not when we are away.

I feel i should be able to reply to admin on his previous comment. i thought that your office offered this as a service not as a favour as you said so i have misunderstood. i would have been willing to pay you the going rate for hiring a safe so felt entitled to ask these questions. sorry if you have taken offence when all i have ever tried to do is be polite to people on this forum. collette please don't close the thread as that is my last word on the subject and i don't want anyone else to comment on it.

Just had another thought (well, we're off in just over 2 weeks
it might be worth checking insurance docs to see what's covered and where -
I think I recall seeing something about it specifying the location of the safe for them to pay out if anything was stolen.
Could be wrong, but there was a difference between the safe being at reception and in the room??

i would never have thought about hiding all of my important documents like passport & travellers cheques in different places. i suppose you always just assume that the safe will always be the safest place for you to keep you belongings but obviously this isn't the case. i have visited icmeler 5 times and have never heard of anything like this before. it would be niave to think this never happens, but you get people that like that all over and i guess icmeler is no exception. i would hate to think that this would put people off visiting this beautiful place. it certainly doesn't put me off and would say that there is nothing to worry about. things like that can happen in your own home, so just enjoy your holiday!
