melita watches

Postby azzagazza » 26 Jun 2009 07:49

Hiya! Just back from Icmeler and had a fantastic time .... as always :D !
Was wondering if anyone happened to know a phone no or email for the Melita watch shop (on way to beach next to My Silver 925)? We bought some things from there, as we also did last year and they were all great. However, my husbands watch stopped on the plane back home :( ! I wouldn't mind only it wasn't cheap and we are trying to contact them to see if we could maybe send it over or something. Be grateful for any help, thank you.

Hiya

Sorry don't have the details you want but i know where your talking about. I've bought from them before and I'm sure they will sort things out for you.

I'm flying out to Icmeler next Thursday (2nd July) If you want to send the watch onto me I'll be more than happy to take it to them to swap/fix.
I can let you know how things go via the Forum and then post it back to you upon my return.

Obviously if you don't feel comfortable in trusting an infamous Jewel thief like myself that's not a problem. otherwise drop me a PM

Cheers

Excuse my ignorance as I'm a newby here but I'm assuming Melita is the name of the shop and not a branded name of a watch ?

Again , assuming you bought something substantial , have you looked at the warranty ? You may find it's valid worldwide ( I bought a Festina for my son overseas which had a world wide warranty). If so you should be able to get it fixed in the UK.

If not I'm flying out next week. They don't call me 'Raffles' for nothing you know. :)

Melita is the shop/stall name, not the make of a watch. The OP probably has bought a famous brand named watch but this will be in name only ( if you see what I mean)

Cheers

glad you're sorted ag!

a friend gave us some advice on our 1st visit to Icmeler which is always buy your watches in the first couple of days, then if they break you can take them back and swap them

seems to do the trick

The email for this shop is [email protected]. However, please beware. The same happened to us last year - we returned the two watches that had stopped within a week of returning, and about a month later in August 2009 the owner stated he had sent them back. We never did receive them. When we returned last week we went in and it turns out that for some strange reason and without speaking to us, he decided to give them to people we didn't know to bring back to England, even though we had said we would pay the postage and packing through Western Union. Needless to say we haven't got them and on getting the phone number and speaking to these individuals in the UK it became apparent that some fibs were being told. The owner of the shop refused to meet us half way in making good the loss (about £120) so to say I'm underwhelmed by both his lack of common sense and honour are an understatement, especially as he makes out to be everyone's best friend. He suffered no loss, someone else got two free watches and we were left empty handed. If you do send them then I suggest you make sure he posts them to you using a number you can track.

I would urge anyone not to buy there. The watches don't work for long and for snide gear are quite expensive.

I have been tempted when seeing a nice gold watch in a jewellers, but the not knowing if its real or not makes me leave it.

Bought hubby a watch on our first visit to Icmeler from the market and wasnt expecting much but it was about 20 lira which was dear in those days, it died after 3 days. Didnt bother taking it back, no point.

those shop owners can sell sand to the arabs. Its like the holding a fag lighter to a bag to try and prove its leather (not).

i bet if you produced a receipt he'd say oh it wasnt me i wasnt here then or words to that effect.

At least with your unfortunate experiences and telling us here, it helps the rest of us avoid being caught out. If it was a fiver you wouldnt mind but £60 ish not worth it.

Murat is a salesman looking to make a living but he is not liable to deliberately cheat anyone.
Regarding the missing watches that Lisa refers to, I was the person who brought the watches back to the UK along with the address to post them to. Within a day I had sent on the watches (can't remember the address) in a package in a protective envelope. In hindsight I should have got a receipt for the postage but I didn't.
Murat contacted me some time later querying the missing watches, later at the time Lisa was in Turkey, we spoke over the phone and Lisa was not very understanding, I posted the package from my city centre post office and could only give an approx date as this conversation was over something that happened 12 months ago.
Lisa demand was uncompromising and the conversation was not very pleasant. When I returned from Turkey there was a national post strike in the UK that went on for a few weeks, I can only conclude that due to this, the watches went missing. I have been to Icmeler many times in the past 25 years and have known Murat for at least 6 years and I have bought many watches, cheap and not so cheap, I still wear a number of the watches. I have had new batteries in some and the electonic watches all still work. I think it is the luck of the draw. I know Murat will tell you which is cheap and which are the most expensive and then its your choice.
I'm sorry that Lisa didn't receive her watches but there was no 'fibs' being told as Lisa suggested in her comments.
If Murat could have afforded to compensate Lisa I'm sure he would but as we all know, salaries in Turkey are very small compared to the amount of hours that they work. I'm sure there are lessons to be learnt on all sides but I don't like Lisa's comment on 'urging people not to buy at the shop'. Take it as part of life's learning curve, we all learn by our mistakes !!!

Yes it is a learning curve and after two duff £50 watches last summer from this shop the lesson was learnt ,avoided buying from there this year, his reason they didn't work was I should have brought better quality, and I did take them back last September to be looked at but they still didn't last, and these were electronic not cheap battery ones.
Have looked in while I am here and even told him my complaint but not really interested.

hers my take on things in turkey

theres no copy right laws so you need to be carefull. if your going to buy some thing, say a rolex for £30 brand new what are you expecting?? a rolex? i bought a £2000 omega watch for 20 quid 8 year ago with self wind and a second hand that doesnt tick, it just goes round, if you know what i mean. the leather strap went after 8 month but the watch is still going!! its a risk you need to think about.

Hi, Can I just say it was myself who posted the original message and this was purely to try and contact the shop. Murat was very kind and did reply to me, accepted the watch back and gave a replacement without any issues. It is just unfortunate the watch stopped working. I myself bought a "tag" over 4 years ago from the same shop which I have just taken for it's first battery!!!! The girl in the shop could not believe it was fake far and less how long it had been going. New battery in and good as new!!!
Hope it has not put anyone off shopping there - I posted the original 2 years ago.
Also my wee girl got a Barbie watch (which Murat gave her free) and it is still working well.
Happy shopping in Icmeler!

I left the post purposely as I knew that there would also be people happy with the service so both sides could be put forward
