Hi, I am due to fly out to Icmeler on 9 July and only realised I have lost my passport.

I have booked an appointment in Glasgow at the passport office but it's for 2 July and they say that it will take 7 days to get my passport!

This is cutting really fine, as, as I said previously we are due to fly out on the 9th.

I'm so worried that I am not going to receive it in time, and just wondered if anyone else has used the fast track service and if so, how long did it take for the passport to come?

We have a 10 hour round trip to go to Glasgow and I'm really getting myself in a state as the woman at the passport office said she cannot guarantee I will have it in itme.

So anyone with any experience, I would really appreciate some good news.

Cant help you, but just wanted to wish you all the luck in getting your passport in time.

Friend of mine used the Fast Track service recently, and it took just over a fortnight for the passport to come back to her - so I'm not sure I'd rely on that, to be honest.
Hope you get it all sorted out though...

Our local passport in South Wales is in Newport. We can go there first thing in the morning, queue up and put the application in, then collect it later in the day. Doesn't Glasgow do this too?

No they don't do it in Glasgow. It's by appointment only and they say they will post it out within 7 days.

I'm in such a state worrying about it that it's took all the excitement out of the holiday.

My appointment is at 2:30pm so don't even though if that counts as day 1, and it costs £97 plus £60 for petrol - the last thing I need the week before we go away.

I've turned the house upside down, but to no avail. So I think I'm just going to have to hope and pray that it comes in time.

Just seen this where they offer a 7 day service or a 1 day service.

Travelling within two weeks?
If you need to renew your passport urgently, IPS offers a Fast-Track one-week service and a Premium one-day service. You must make an appointment for these services by calling the Passport Adviceline on 0300 222 0000. The line is open seven days a week between 7.00 am and 11.00 pm.

my 18 year old son had a similar problem a couple of years ago and we attended Durham passport office the Friday before he was due to fly on the Monday. I explained the situation to the desk clerk and she was extremely helpful , she said she would ask somebody to process the application ASAP, his passport arrived by courier the following evening about 8.00pm. i would explain your situation when you attend your appointment and ask very politely for their help. The staff at the passport office are human and like most of us willing to help when they can, they really were fantastic. I wrote a thank you lettter to the manager of the office and received a very humerous personal reply. Good luck and try not to worry to much.

Like Reesy has said if you phone the passport ofice they should be able to offer you a same day service the cost is about £104.00 for 10year passport you go in the morning with your documents and then go back later in the day to pick up your passport

Unfortunately, Glasgow - the nearest passport office to her - doesn't seem to offer that service. My daughter's friend was in a very similar situation and she ended up having to fly over to Belfast to get hers, because Glasgow didn't do it.

I know its a bit far away from you but the Liverpool office offers this service might be worth the trip if you need the passport

Unfortunately it's not a 'Glasgow' issue : if you go to the IPS website (I just had a look) it states that this service is not available for lost passports.
The best you can hope for is the one week service I'm afraid.

For clarity (from the IPS website) :
Fast Track service (available by appointment only at passport office counters). Guaranteed one-week service. From 1 June 2007, this service became unavailable to first-time adult applicants because an interview is now required as part of the application process. If you are applying for your first adult passport, we recommend you allow six weeks for your passport to be sent to you.

Premium service ** (available only for passport renewals, by appointment only at passport office counters) ** . Guaranteed same-day service. From 1 June 2007, this service became unavailable to first-time adult applicants because an interview is required as part of the application process.
* First-time adult passport applicants will require an interview at a passport office as part of their application process.

** This service is not available to first-time adult passport applicants, lost, stolen or damaged passport applications, when a child is applying for their first adult passport or applicants who have had a total change of name - i.e. forename and surname.

It's the 7 day fast track service I have to use, and as someone else said, the 1 day service is not available for lost passports.

I work full time, and my company manager has very graciously given me the day off to go to Glasgow, as my driving license is also with the passport I cannot use that for ID to fly to another part of the country - so Glasgow it is then.

We have just had to re-new our 10 year passports.
I filled in the relevant passport application took along 2 passport size photos, went along to our main post office who checked to see if it was filled out correctly this cost £72 for the 10 year passport approx £6.50 for the girl to check the application.
We have received our passports back this morning,it has taken just 10 days and this is includeing a weekend.
An Excellent service,check if the same procedure covers for lost passports.

I have just renewed my passport and Meg's (aged 7) at the post office today using the check & send service. Would this be quick enough for you? I am not sure if there is a guaranteed turnaround time. It cost me £72 + £6.85 for mine and £46 +£6.85 for Meg. Good luck

Can't help with the renewal side of things but ...... have you looked in the travel bags you used last time you were on holiday, you might of tucked the passport into an inside pocket of one of the bags ......... just a thought.
