Hi Fanny

what I mean is if Turkey are in the EU they wont be able to charge fellow EU countries a visa fee as travel between EU countries is free :D

hi Steve, i knew what you meant, I just couldn't resist posting a tongue in cheek reply
mind you , if/when they join the EU it'll be a lot dearer for us given that a Euro is more or less the same as a Pound now
so the only silver cloud for me is that I'd be able to bring back a stash of cigs instead of the measly 200 I'm allowed at the moment grrr

Joining the EU does not necessarily mean they will be able to switch to the Euro, they will only be able to switch to the Euro is they meet certain fiscal hurdles.

Slovakia joined the EU in 2004 but it has taken them 5 years to obtain approval to join Euro

At the same time the following countries also joined the EU but as yet have not joined the Euro.

Estonia
Latvia
Lithuania
Poland
Czech Republic
Hungary
