Hi, My sister and i are visiting Turkey this year for 6 weeks, weve decided to stay in the resort of Hisaronu as a change from Icmeler (hope we don't miss it too much!).

As we are going for 6 weeks im worried about goin over my 20kg luggage allowance, i go over it when i visit for 2 weeks! as many of you go out for long stretches of time i was wondering if you had any tips on how to keep the weight down? we thought about buying our toilietries at the airport? but i can just imagine us with carrier bags full boarding the plane!

Any tips would be greatfully appreciated!

Hiya well i went for the season last year with 15kg but i brought an extra 10kg...as i knew i would be over! so was about 24kg,dunno really took lots of the cheap primark vest tops £1 bargain haha!...
But yeah as you've said-i did buy toiletries at the airport.

I was so happy to leave all my clothes in the bin when i left...felt like a tramp honest!! Apologies to those who seen me out there lookin like that hahaha!!

im going for 5 weeks this time so i need to keep my luggage down as well
just gonna take lots of little things i think and cut down on the heavy stuff
i know its not gonna be easy but last time we went we used our scales to weigh our suitcases before we went to the airport so we had an idea of how much they were gonna way

6 weeks is a long time shoes one pair day time then one pair for night time
clothes wise any thing that non iron as it can be rinsed out if your going with someone else swap outfits
roll on deodrant would last longer than a can, theres a bar of soap from lush that you can wash your hair/ body in rinse undies out
theres always a laundry
it would be a good idea to get the toilterys at the airport

thanks for your help! bec who did you fly out with? Were flying out with Onur and i rang to ask if we could pay for extra luggage but they said i just have to get charged as i check in, does anyone know how much it is per kilo with Onur?

if u fly with TC then its £6 extra per kilo
so im sure Onur will be somewhere around that amount

Just wear extra layers when going out....I don't think they are starting to weigh passengers and charge them just yet! (tongue in cheek....I'm sure it wont be long though)

Anyone travelling with Thomas Cook...you are only allowed one
piece of hand luggage.....so ladies a handbag counts as one piece
I have allways taken handbag and piece of hand luggage....but they
are tightening up on these things all the time.

Last year Onur was charging £2.00 per kilo overweight, they were also stating only 1 piece of hand luggage, so my handbag was put in my other bag for check in and taken out later

Buy your towels over there, they,re cheap, then throw them away when holiday is finished

Why throw things away when you can donate them to the childrens orphange ICR will take them from you and pass them on you only need to drop them into their office in town

think i will buy my towels over there cause turkish towels are supposed to be really good
you can also buy the toiletries over there but the british makes ie dove and stuff like that are quite expensive i think

As for toiletries (as they've been mentioned already), why not buy them when you get to Turkey (ie. in Hisaronu)? Just because it's a different country, it doesn't mean they don't have shops! We have often bought toiletries from Tansas etc whilst we've been in SC accommodation.

Clothes may be little different as you may prefer English clothes than those manufactured in Turkey. However, don't forget about all the inexpensive 'designer' clobber on the markets - may be worth not buying quite so much in the build-up to your stay, and getting a few cheaper options while you're out there.

Slightly off-topic, we spoke to a couple who moved over to Turkey permenantly the other year, and they took all their belongings in a few suitcases... and that was to last alot longer than 6 weeks!

I know it seems like an impossible task when you come to pack your luggage, but just think about each item, and whether you REALLY need to take it, or whether you can (a) do without it for 6 weeks, or (b) you could get a new one in Turkey (providing it isn't an expensive item). Bear in mind what the weather is likely to be like whilst you're there - should be no need for a jacket or jumper during the summer months at all.

be careful about excess luggage. I saw my mum off at Dalaman last week and TC were charging people £8 for every kilo over. If their suitcase was even 1 kilo over - they then weighed the hand luggage. Some people were being charged £80+ extra! You've been warned!

You mention "English clothes". rather than those manufactured in Turkey.What are English clothes now-a-days
Browsing around a local "Next store" I started to look at the labels on their gear. we came out with a figure of about 80% of their stock were "Made in Turkey",
Indeed the other year I was wearing a sweatshirt that was bought in UK for £18, and on closer inspection was, "Made in Turkey". Identical item was spotted in Turunc for 15ytl
At the end of the day its only holiday gear and who, in their holiday mode would seriously know, or be bothered, as to what was "designer gear" [especially at my tender years].
As you say take a few of your good bits, go for the "cheapie" and buy out there

Just a note about t cook hand luggage - Last week they tagged my hand luggage so they knew you only had one pıece. There was also a notıce that ıf anyone had more than one pıece when they got to the gate then they would be charged 40 pound to take ıt on board.

Might appear being a bit silly here but:-

If the alternative to paying the £40, is forfieting your baggage.

Would,nt it be good fun, to land them, with about 200 carrier bags of rubish [coffee-cups, newspapers, crispbags, etc] per flight, that we all gather whilst waiting for their bloody plane, and that has obviously not been "tagged"

Hi, just to let people know if they dont already. Tesco's are selling those luggage scales now for £6. They're quite small. Will weigh upto 35kg so it says.

I wouldnt like to have to lift a heavy suitcase at the end of them, but thats hubby's job. Haven't seen them much cheaper anywhere else.

They're also doing quite a lot of tiny deodorants and travel size shampoo's etc, which wouldnt last a family but handy for short stays or to tide you over till you get stuff from Tansas.

We're thinking of getting pull along holdall's to save suitcase weight as well.

After being stung couple of years ago going out from Mcr would you believe for nearly £80, we have learnt a lesson. lol.
