The tin opening ceremony

Postby dotty » 31 May 2008 10:26

Well now I know I'm on the serious holiday countdown. Tonight we open our savings tin (with a tin opener) and count our pennies - we save 50p and 20p in a big tin from holiday to holiday, and we use the money to spend at the airport on whatever takes our fancy. So tonight we have a few Efes and a turkish kebab. Me and OH write down how much we think is in the tin and whoever is the nearest is the winner. The loser has to ensure the drinks are kept topped up at the airport, order food etc etc. Not much of a forfeit I know but I'm used to my OH going to the bar etc so I don't like when I'm the loser. Bet you all think we're real saddos, but it all adds to the holiday countdown. Will post the outcome tomorrow.

Dotty,
You are not on your own we do it as well. Fun counting it and pays for bits and pieces. One year we just saved £1 coins and there was just on two hundred quid but I think there willl not be near that much this year.

Its certainly not long at mounting up Marg. We don't really miss 50p and 20p and last year had around £120, but don't think there will be as much this time.....will keep you posted

That's what I do Dotty. Save any loose change for my Airport spends. I have a big pig though.

Couldn't trust myself with that Steve cos assume you can open it at any time. The tin I get has to be opened with a tin opener so not tempted to 'borrow' out of it. It certainly comes in handy at the airport cos you can spend quite a bit of money there eh.

I don't dip into mine.

Yeah you do spend a fair bit, by the time you've got papers and stuf. I also use mine for a drink on the plane.

we just opened our tin and we only put quids in, we had a total of £186, which will pay for the dog to go in kennels so will not have to worry about the extra cost :)
