Currency, - Tough Decision

Is it time to gamble in the exchange rate, last year I missed out when it was high early in the year, I could have 3.70 in Feb/March in the UK but only got 3.55 in the August in resort as it had dropped.

It's dropped today at the banks from 3.80 to 3.78 but thats the norm for a Friday, M&S are offering 3.67 if pre-ordered online

I think I will closely monitor it over the next couple of weeks and make a decission, last year it peaked end of February and didn't get back to the same levels until September.

Gamble or not to gamble that is the question.

I always bite the bullet and buy over here so that I don't spend my saved up holiday money. I know I'll get a better rate over there but I can't hang on.

Unfortunately, we changed money when it was 2.8 at the end of our holiday in 2013 thinking that it was a good rate, which it was at the time. If we had used this money last summer we would have lost out quite a lot as the prices had gone up to match the exchange rate which i think at the time was around 3.5. We would have lost out by 25% as we would be buying things at a rate of 3.5 with lira we'd bought at the rate of 2.8.

We thought that we could have used the Lira this year but the rate is higher again. If it stays as high we would lose out by 30%. The money we had changed was based on a self catering holiday for three weeks so it is a fair amount.

We won't make the same mistake again and change so much in advance as we never thought that by doing this we could lose out :(
