Postby geordiedave1964 » 06 Jul 2013 17:27

Are other having the problem of receiving a different rate for Travellers Cheques as opposed to cash. i have always got the same rate from the supermarket below the ICR office but ive seen a few posts to say he is giving a lower rate. Might have to take cash only

We go in 8 days time (can't wait!!) and I was considering taking traveller's cheques for the first time ever as we're there for 20 days and didn't fancy stashing a load of cash in the room/safe and just keeping my fingers crossed that it would all be there everyday but I too have read comments about a different exchange rate for cheques so I think I'm going to have to use the ATM's when we run out of YTL, that way, I know I'm paying more but I don't have to worry about losing cash. :)

I withdraw sterling from the ATM by the Prince Apartments. Nationwide debit card so no charges for withdrawing sterling. Swings and roundabouts as to withdraw Lira there is a small charge so I just stick to the sterling. Also saves on a safety deposit box.

Is that the same for all Nationwide Debit Cards or just certain accounts?
I've got a Flexaccount with DC, would Sterling withdrawals be FOC for me too?

Hi janeypoos

Last year I used my Nationwide Flex Debit Card. I now have the Nationwide FlexDirect debit card.

Last year I withdrew cash at the ATM by the Prince Apartments (someone on this forum recommended I use that bank - Gallanti or something). If I withdrew £300 sterling then my account was debited with £300.

This year I used the same machine with my Nationwide FlexDirect debit card - I have just checked my statement and when I withdrew £300 my account has been debited with £300.

No charges.

I am sure it will be the same for you but you can always check on their website, although it's hidden away, I struggled to find it before I went on holiday.

Thanks for that reassurance Patsie, I'm going to pop into my branch tomorrow just to make sure I've got the right account & card for free withdrawals. :)
