Kindle or similar

19 Feb 2012 03:49

Hi all, I need some advice, I want a kindle or something like it that I can read in full sunlight and also in dim light or darkness when my husband is sleeping, I know nothing about them but have read a bit so need recommendations about the best to take on hols, the ones that come with chargers (?) (a friend tells me she recharges hers via her laptop, there is no way I'm taking my laptop on hols). If links are allowed I'd be very grateful for any advice recommedations - it wouldn't be for much use at home, it's mainly hols it would be used for, I tend to read for hours by the pool and at least 2 hours in the room. Anyone able to help?

The kindle is the best one. You get a charger with it. I personally wouldnt be without it now. Had one for over a year and its great. Fantastic in the sunlight or reading in the room. The other ones onthe market do not compare, I dont think.

I would also recommend the kindle, use mine all the time. They don't come with the charger but you can buy one, it's similar to and ipod charger. You can get covers that have little lights in them for reading in the dark, though they are quite expensive, or you can buy a little clip on light. I got my kindle from tesco for £89, tesco leather cover only £15 and clip on light from WH Smith.

Hi

I would agree on the Kindle. I have the latest one and it is superb.Easily read in bright sunlight and you can buy a cheap clip on light from ebay for reading in the dark. They do not come with a charger but again you can buy a cheap one from ebay. The battery life is excellent on the kindle so it will not need charged that often and the books are easily enough found for them if you know where to look.

Hi,
My wife has a Kindle and swears by it, hers came with a charger, But if you have a modern mobile phone, (no older than 2 years) the charger will fit both as mobile phone companys now use the same mini plug. Then you dont need to worry about charging it. The only exception may be IPHONE, which tend to be a law unto themselves.
If you only have a Usb to Kindle lead you can get a Usb to mains plug from Leading Supermarkets for a few pounds.

Another vote for the Kindle, after researching the internet on e-readers the Kindle was the better option.

Mine also came with the charger so don't understand why others haven't. You can buy a mini lamp of ebay for use at night. :D

I got a charger with my Kindle too, but I know a couple of people who thought theirs didn't, only to discover they'd thrown it away with the box!

I got a Kindle and would not be without it. I got the more expensive one which I would recommend as you can download books straight onto it withought having to connect it to a PC. I got a charger with it and it also works on my i-phone with the Morphie cover that charges the phone when charge has run out. I only need take the one charger on holiday for both phone and Kindle. BTW- there are a lot of free books to download onto the Kindle- some are bad but some are surprisingly good.

With version 4 of the Kindle which is around £89 you can download the books through wifi directly from Amazon though I tend to connect to my pc to copy my books across

Woudn't be without my kindle now. If there is more than one of you, you can register in the same name. My husband, daughter and myself registered with amazon together so any book that one of us buys can also be downloaded at no charge to the other two kindles :)

Good choice the Kindle I love mine. You can even loan/borrow books from one kindle to another. No problem with reading in bright sunlight. I have the one with 3g Which allows internet access. If you have the internet switch off the battery life is about 1 month, it's brillant wouldn't be without mine now.

Kindle will hold its charge for about a month if you switch the wi-fi off

Charger or no charger depends on the model you buy. For the ones that come with only a usb cable you can buy a plug for less than £5

And a £20 Aquapac will protect your Kindle from sand/water and allow you to use it whilst floating on your li-lo. Now that is luxury!

I thoughly recommend the Kindle, I now wouldn't be without mine at home or on holiday. If you have an iphone with a Morphie battery case then the charger is the same for the both the Kindle and the iphone in the Morphie so you only need the one charger when you go on holiday and personally I like the Kindle one best for charging both as the lead is much longer.

The very best in my opinion is the kindle paperwhite,it has a built in light ,have it on or off, great for reading in a darkened room whilst hubby is sleeping.I use the charger from my first kindle ,it is the original one with a keypad that I will take on holiday as a spare in case my paperwhite runs out of charge when I am at the beach. All of us have a kindle.
