that reminded me of a laugh we had a couple of years ago. we were talking to a couple of women who thought sokak was the name of a town and they couldn't understand why in one street sokak was 24 miles away and a couple of streets away sokak was 57 miles away

Do you get it now?

Someone thought (sokak) was a village, but it means Street in Turkish, so every street is street 23, street 44 etc. So when the poster saw sokak 23, she thought it was 23 miles to Sokak, then walked another 5 minutes, and saw sokak 57, they thought that was 57 miles to Sokak.

Get it now?

oops, my fault Andy. Didn't really explain it very well. as reesy says, the signposts on each street say 23 sokak , or 24 sokak etc...etc. cheers reesy :)

peevo,

it's the street numbers that have changed, not the house numbers. hopefully you'll be able to sleep easier now and not worrying too much about legal issues. :)
