Hi we are thinking about getting a caxton fx card [and a spare in case we lose 1] it looks a good deal with no charge for withdrawing cash from atm so instead of taking a load of cash just draw sterling out of atm when we need it has anyone used this before. thanks

I went travelling last year and I took a Caxton FX global traveller card with me! I would recommend it! You’ll find it really easy – you can just put some money onto the card online (if the internet is faster than it was when I was there!!) My mum even put some on for me when I had spent all my cash I never had any problems with it and is no charge when withdrawing from atms. It was much cheaper than my credit card – which always whacked on stupid fees every time I spent anything and withdrew cash. I only have the one card, but I’m sure they have secondary card available too.

Just applied for one too as sound good especially as you can get money out from the ATM with no charge.

Could members please check that there is no charges on the Global Card as I read it when drawing money from ATMs in a currency other than what the card is loaded with will entail a 2.50% charge per transaction

John the way I read it was, if you had the Euro or Dollar card and you wanted a different currency, then you would incur the 2.50% charge, but not with the Global card. I hope thats right

Hi Dave,
I read it that a Euro Card is loaded with Euros and a Dollar Card is loaded with Dollars so the exchange rate has already been transferred.
Global Card is loaded with Sterling and can be used anywhere in the world at places that accept Mastercard at a charge of 2.50% per transaction.
If a Euro or Dollar Card is used outside its designated area it also becomes subjected to this charge.
That's how I read it.

I've just read the fees page and the way I read it is that if you have a global card it is loaded in sterling. If you go to an atm and take out cash in a currency other than sterling then the charge will apply. If you withdraw sterling then there is no charge.

Yes would agree with you. Always get more than even the best exchange rate in the resort and no charge.

Hi, I'm all a bit new to this. I'm not sure if anyone saw it but Martin Lewis talked about this sort of thing on Watchdog last week, was about 5 minutes long halfway through. He talked about his 'cards of death' which included the Natwest debit card, which charge a fee for every withdrawal. I did hear him mention the Nationwide Credit Card as his preferred but didn't mention the pre-paid cards, the withdrawal fee is a big factor for me.

I just had a quick read through the link posted above, it looks like for that global traveller card it just charges if you are withdrawing money from your card within the UK but not when you go abroad. We all seem to have interpreted it differently.

There is no charge for drawing out of atm but i think there is a 2.50% charge for drawing lira out. If you look on martin lewis site under prepaid cards it has more info there

I've been told by Nationwide they are going to start charging and to check before I go.

They did it.

A dramatic U-turn on overseas credit and debit card charges will mean significant new fees for millions of Nationwide customers planning to use their cards abroad, it emerged yesterday. From May, Nationwide customers with a Visa credit card will be charged 0.84 per cent of the value of any transaction made outside Europe. The same fee will apply to debit card holders from 1 June, but the fee will swiftly increase to 1 per cent for both groups of card holders from 1 July.

I think that the census of opinion is that using a Caxton fx Global Card to obtain Turkish Lira from a ATM in Icmeler will incur a transaction card of 2.50%.
Taking sterling and using the supermarkets to convert into Lira still appears to be the best pick, take credit/debit cards to be used sparingly like under emergency circumstances.

Do ATM's in Turkey issue various currencies, is it possible for them to supply Sterling in addition to the Lira
