Can't Remember?

Postby Cummo » 01 Apr 2010 08:28

Hi

Have tried to post this to general tips but with no joy so possibly in the wrong place but here goes.

As i travel through the various forums picking up tips and advice, anything that takes my fancy i copy and paste into a word document. Then print it off just before i go (un-edited so it's a bit all over the place) and take it with me. Then when i get home i'm not kicking myself for not visiting or doing something i intended to do because i forgot.

It also makes great reading time and time again on the balcony with a G & T in hand. Try it it works.

This years 4 main topics for us seem to be (so far)

Visit the Hammam
Drive the Dacta Peninsula
Find and enjoy Cafe Rose (or rose cafe not sure)
Meet fellow forumites

Oh and watch out for that mad bloke! lol

Hiya John, I'm also a newbie, here to try and find out anything that will make our holiday better/more fun.
I think your idea is a good one - jotting down places to visit/things to do and see, nice food to try, folks favourite restaurants and bars, who does entertainment etc plus hopefully a few words in Turkish, obviously, the 'pleases and thankyous'

Last year I took a little red diary with me, full of restaraunt+ bar names directions + places to visit.
It filled about 7 pages worth.
Even for a 3 week visit we never got to visit all the places we wanted to.
So I would say that it's a great iea :D

Hopefully this year we can visit places we failed to cross of the list from last year, and others we have added for this year.

I don't think it is sad. I also take notes to take with to see certain places or visit. Must dos are important as last year we did the walk from Icmeler to Marmaris after going to Icmeler for the last eight years. Got to the old village for the first time as well. We all do our holidays in our own way.

Ha ha  hands88, do your sandles let you walk on water also?

For us having 3 young kids, when making a choice on things to do/visit, a list of places to see and do with tips on directions make the holiday that wee bit easier when making a choice on things to do/visit.
It saves wasting time walking about with 3 bored kids if we can just go direct to the place.
We also like to go with the flow and thats why only half the places on our list did not get visited last year.

Each to their own hands88.

We took a list the first time we went, namely the places that got plenty of mentions on here or recommendations from friends - needless to say, many visits later, we've still not managed to get through them all
Thing is, that regardless of whether they are on the list or not, we're only on holiday for x number of meals and once we've paid a couple of visits to the ones we like, the holiday's over

we've also taken directions to cafe rose with us - and managed to find it haha

now, we use the cards from various restaurants to get our bearings on where particular places are - the suitcases are brimming with them
and they make great bookmarks!!

I think its a fantastic idea. Even after many holidays to Icmeler, there are always new places to seek and try out. I always make mental notes of new places and trips I want to try.

Jambogarry,
On reflection Ithink i was wrong to say its a sad idea, I have realised the error of my ways and would like to apologise profusley.!!
I think that a tips list is something worth taking , as the original poster said, and it does make for a livley night on the balcony with a nice Efes !

Deffo do the Datca pensinsular. Such beautiful views, absolutely awe inspiring. Visit the little shop that sells soaps, all types - body scrubs, moisturising, muscle soothers. loofas etc. etc. Came back with bags of the stuff!!!
