Best currency to take from the UK

Postby ORANGECAT » 28 May 2010 18:34

I have read about various different opinions on what is the best currency to take when going to Icmeler from the UK. Does anybody have a definitive answer as what they feel is the best to take (pounds sterling, euros, turkish lira or travellers cheques). Thanks.

As said above, enough lira for first day and rest in travellers cheques. Much safer than taking cash and you always get a better exchange rate over there so wouln't suggest taking too much lira

We are all different, but we take a few liras with us (usually what was left from the previous holiday) also a few hundred pounds in sterling for shopping, trips etc, and then my Nationwide Flexi Account card and I withdraw money each day from the bank. With Nationwide there is no charge for withdrawals and you get the international bank exchange rate, which is always a little more than what you can get in resort.

If you are getting travellers cheques get sterling, I've alwasy taken sterling travellers cheques as I don't have a bank account that doesn't charge for international withdrawals.

The little supermarket underneath the ICR offices was giving 2.27 yesterday - that was the best rate we found. Everywhere else seemed to be doing around 2.25.

Is it only the Nationwide Flexi Account that gives you free withdrawals abroad or is the saving account card the same.
