Charges in restaurants/bars

Postby icmeler1sttimer » 19 Jul 2010 14:50

Hi

Is it true that restaurants and bars put bread and salad on the table even though you haven't ordered it and then charge you for it? Also that if they bring your drinks to your table you get charged on top of the cost of each drink?

the starters that you are referring to (meze) if you have not ordered them and they are brought to you should be complimentary - i have never paid for this in Icmeler. It normally consists of bread and dips.

the drink situation is slightly different - all the restaurants in Icmeler work on waiter service and i don't believe that they charge extra for this. Certainly they do not increase the advertised (menu) price. However, i know it can be the case in some of the nightclubs - i know in Eastenders the drinks are more expensive using the table service (only 1 or 2 lira i think and I believe Marmaris is the same). If you are using table service in the nightclubs the drink price if slightly higher than it would be if you went to the bar yourself, although in fairness it tends to be the locals that do this.

Going back to the starters - a few people are saying this year that they have found erroneous entries on their bills, so just keep an eye out and review your bill at the end of the evening. if there is anything on it that you have not ordered / agreed to pay for, bring it to their attention and ask for it to be removed. regrettably i have had to do this a few times in Icmeler - whether it is a genuine mistake or not I don't know. it doesn't put me off - i'm just more aware now :D

We've certainly never been charged for the mezes (bread and dips) in any restaurant in Icmeler either. As tami says, just keep an eye on your bill and query it if you do think you have been over-charged for anything.

No never been charged for Meze either. I have been suprised over the last few visits how most of the restaurants dont supply you with this anymore. I remember a few years back this was a given in every restaurant and you always got complimentary watermelon after a meal too but thats stopped now too.

i haven't been anywhere that doesn't give you meze (yet) - we got it everywhere last year. i look forward to it with every meal and i wouldn't rush back to a restaurant that didn't give you it to be honest

When we went in June,we had free mezes at all the restaurants we went to,but not all gave us the water melon as before. Also at least 3 restaurants tried adding extra drinks on our bill.
