What form to take cash in?

First, my apologies if these question have been asked over and over, they probably have.
This will be our first visit to Turkey (Icmeler). I intend taking Lira to cover the first several days. For the rest should we take Lira or Sterling travellers cheques or what?
I've been told Sterling notes are acceptable but coming from Scotland English notes are hard to come by. Are Scottish banknotes acceptable? Not at the border I know but at money changers?
What about ATMs? I have a Nationwide account which doesn't charge for withdrawals in Turkey. Are ATM's readily available?

Plenty of ATM in Icmeler, there are a load in the square and also at several banks.

Scottish notes can be changed at a couple of places but the rate is terrible, last year when an English pound was getting 2.45 Lira I understand you could only get about 2,2 for a scottish note. Sterling travellers cheques are fine and you can change them at the little supermarkets.

I personally take 50% cash and 50% TC, make sure you hire a safe at your apartment.

We take £50 to £80 in Lira, the rest split in sterling T.C. Sterling and Nationwide Atm, 2 cards incase 1gets eaten.
the ATMs dispense Lira, Sterling or Euro, and are very easy to find in the main square. Change your T.C.s at any good rate supermarket, bar or apartment, NOT at the exchange bureau. One good s-market is under the ICR office,

take a small amount of Lira to get you started
then take the rest in cash (english notes) or if you want to you can easily withdraw from the ATM machines the centre
