turkish computer keyboard

29 Sep 2009 00:26

Hi all.
Have been a member of this forum for a while without posting, my good lady and me will be in icmeler from the 1st oct to 16th. This is our first time in turkey and really dont know quite what to expect, but my son has been before and says the Turkish keyboard is different to ours. He said he could not access his e mails as he did not know where the @ key was, also what are other differances as I need to use a computer while I am over there. As a footnote I would like to add a big thankyou to all those who exchange imformation on this forum, as it is a big help to first timer's to Turkey.

thanks in advance Warren

Welcome to the forum and I hope you have a super holiday in Icmeler, I am sure you will soon be addicted.

When you are using the computer, just ask any of the guys that are around, they will only be too willing to help.

Dont forget to try and find Vince's bar and pop along and meet some of the forumists on any Friday evening around 9pm.

The Turkish keyboards are different, but as others have said, if you ask one of the guys in wherever you're using the computer, they'll be happy to help you out. Even my husband managed to use one in the end - and if he can do it, anyone can! :)

If I can remember correctly you need to press the ALT GR key and Q to get @

You also need to remember that there are two letter I's - If you have an I in any of your passwords or user names then you need to use the one with the dot on(which is in a different place to out letter I - Its near the enter key)

But as everyone else has said just ask for help and you will be fine!

the turkish keyboards are different
but you will see a little symbol at the right hand side of the screen at the bottom that will say TR
this means the language is in turkish
change this to english (make sure its UK english and not US english) and just type like you would normally on an english keyboard
you might have to keep changing it as it might change itself back every so often but that should work
thats how i get round it
cause in turkey they have 2 different types of the letter i
one with a dot and the other without and it makes a difference when your entering email adresses and things like that
hope this helps
