I just got back on Tuesday and there were loads of people in our queue getting charged £10 per kilo, they were warning you on the coach
transfer about the charges and advising you to use scales on one of empty check in desks to check your luggage before you check in incase you need to reshuffle stuff.
One woman and her party were charged £70,she was fuming but at the end of the day it's common knowledge that they are very strict and do charge at
Dalaman so it pays to be careful IMO

They have been charging for excess luggage since we went in may, onur air was charging £5.00 per kilo they said it was a standard charge and said it would not rise, is this another way of ripping people off as well as overcharging in the cafes also

The whole business makes me so cross - both ends of the journey!
So it doesn't matter that once you've paid the excess baggage charge you'll then go through to departures and buy a litre of voddy or such like, a carton of ciggies, a bottle of perfume, some make-up, perhaps boxes of sweets, jars of honey, maybe even a couple items of clothing, another handbag..... it's just another rip off!
Rant over...

To all Icmeler'ites - when at
Dalaman Airport the check in staff will 'try it on'. If you aretravelling with children who have little suitcases be prepared to argue the toss. There are x amount of you in the party and your 'adult' cases are overweight, the lightness of the childrens smaller cases will more than compensate. I have been told that our cases are overweight many times and have argued with the staff about the lighness of the childrens cases and have won every time. Its a bit like haggling only you have to win this one!!!!

Never had a problem Friday Morning and we had three cases between 4 of us and were allowed to combine the weight on our Onur Air flight, I even had an email from AegeanFlights saying this was allowed, One case was 27KG.
Did see some people on the Newcastle flight being charged but you are allocated an allowance so it's your choice if you go over the limit.

i know staff at
dalaman try it on but when the guy in front of you is a turkish man who gave it **** with the guy im afraid we had no chance but to pay up
24 Aug 2009 16:36
i know staff at
dalaman try it on but when a turkish man is giving it big style to the man taking the money we had no chance and it was cash only so im afraid no amount of haggling would have made one iota of difference

I'm flying with E*** J** from Gatwick. Allowance on web site is 20kg per passenger and one piece of handluggage. Are you suggesting that
Dalaman will weigh the hand luggage as well as that to be checked in.
Cheers
Another John

yes they weighed everything so just make sure you have 20kg pp they even weighed my camcorder
25 Aug 2009 13:09
though there was a separate weight allowance (along with the size restriction) for hand luggage has this changed.? Also the charge per kilo is set by the airline so check your tickets if you are worried about going over.
25 Aug 2009 18:35
So i wont bother taking my little suitcase then and just stick with the handbag?? x
26 Aug 2009 12:57
you get a seperate allowance for hand luggage of 5 kilos-this cant be included in your suitcases though, it has to be totally seperate (in my opinion weight is weight and it shouldnt matter what case or bag its in!)

Cabin baggage is restricted due to the fact the overhead luggage bins have a total weight limit (Normally 60Kg)

Just been sorting out some clothes for when we go in 3 weeks time, I'm determined not to get stung by excess baggage charges so have been very careful with my selections. I will have to wear the same outfit twice at night but thats no hardship
30 Aug 2009 11:46
dotty I can sense that with 3 weeks to go you are starting to become a little bit excited and have your check-off list pinned on the message board....
30 Aug 2009 12:07
I've not quite got the check-off list John, but you have a valid point...I must start the list immediately!! And yes I am getting quite excited, sure my posts will increase over the next few weeks

Forgot to mention in my review about this, we were on a Mon***h flight they weighed the cases but not the hand luggage and I even had a handbag and hand luggage and nothing was said about that. Fortunately we were underweight but saw afew people that were over and didn't see them get charged. Makes me think if its just certain airlines making
Dalaman weigh everything and charge for being overweight...
