Doruk Hotel 5-19 September 2014

Postby Mandy Mo » 24 Sep 2014 09:10

Arrived approx. 10.30pm on Friday 5th - checked in and received a welcome drink! Went for a short walk and off to bed to catch up on some sleep as the day was long having been up since 5.30am!! Didn't sleep as the pillows were like concrete blocks, the fridge had a mind of its own in that it came 'alive' for about 5 mins then went to sleep for 2 mins then came alive again for 5 mins and so on, and so on!!! Plus it was so hot (we opted not to have air con @£5 per day - would have been £70 for the whole stay!). Saturday morning came and we discovered that there was not tea/coffee making facilities (as advertised). Asked about this at reception and told it would be sorted. We were given a kettle on Tuesday night which we had to collect from reception!! A week into our stay (Friday night) and the hair dryer decides to pack in! Informed them at reception and were told that it would be sorted next day. We were out on a lazy day boat trip the following day and upon our return found that the hairdryer had not been attended to. Was given the key to another room to be able to dry my hair. Not convenient having to shower in our own room, trundle across the corridor wrapped in a towel to another room to use the hairdryer and then back again to my own room to get dressed. This had to be done 3 nights in a row because the item was not replaced until late on the Monday night!! As you can imagine I was NOT happy with this - we didn't even get an apology from management - very poor customer service. Had paid for a sea view room. Our room was on the 1st floor and yes, we could see the sea ... but only just! Trees and other buildings were in front of us so you couldn't really call it a sea view as we know it! Balcony was fine, but when you sat down you couldn't see a thing due to the frontage being a solid wall about 4' high!!! There was small railings in the middle - but it really could have been designed better so that you could enjoy your balcony sitting down. Breakfast was ok - but have had better in Icmeler. There was no juice - only water. Cornflakes as cereal, the usual tomatoes, cucumber, olives, bread, boiled eggs, sausages in sauce, sometimes chips and sometimes a tomato based casserole type thingy(!), always 2 types of cheese (same 2 every morning) and just the 1 cold meat (salami EVERY morning). Could have varied this a bit. We also ate here a couple of evenings which was very nice. Had a fab time doing a couple of lazy days boat trips with Ozge(Mama)Boat, a great family, day in Turunc, day in Marmaris, morning walks into the old town and otherwise just chilling by the pool or on the beach with the GREAT Osman - what a guy he is. The hotel could have been designed a bit better in that the "open" space in the middle all the way up from ground floor to the 2nd floor needn't be there. You could here the 'noisy' guests arriving back at 1, 2 and 3 in the morning which was not pleasant for those of us already in bed trying to sleep. By noisy I don't mean roudy - just talking in the corridors and echo being very loud due to the openness of the area - noisy guests not being the hotels fault though! All in all although we had our problems, we would return to this hotel - but purely for its location and the pool. :D

Thanks for posting the review - have to say that £4-5 per night is pretty average for air con in the resort this season. The breakfast also sounds fairly typical too - in fact, a bigger selection than we've had in some places. Glad you had a good holiday overall though./
