Staying Kontes Beach Hotel

Hol 27th June- 11th July Daytime flight from Manchester with Monarch flight ok, through visa and passport control quickly at Dalaman but 1 hour waiting for bags, Transfer with ICR, 15 mins wait for passengers from another flight then off no problem, complementry water on mini bus but warm, 1 1/2 hr to Icmeler, more of the new road has been done and can see the journey time being cut in future when the new road is completed.
Stayed at the Kontes Beach Hotel B&B 8th time in last 6 yrs and have booked via ICR since they started acting as agents for the hotel, The hotel is on the beachfront and has sea views from all rooms some of these are on the side, rooms cleaned daily and well maintained, free aircon, staff as attentive as ever and feels like one big family, no pool but sister Hotel the Effendi next door has a small pool if you wish to use it, We like the beach and 2 sunbeds and shade costs 5 tl this has not gone up in the 6yrs we have been coming here, the beach boys will bring drinks and food to you if you don't want to leave the beach, we find the food very good starting with Turkish buffet breakfast and a good choice on lunch and evening menus ,the chicken kebab wrap at lunch is one I reccomend, we also ate at Harrys steakhouse, Cupids and Captain Bullshits, good food and good service, ate at Kingland chinese set menu 2 chicken dishes never again very poor, Prices have gone up a little -average around resort - Efs 5tl, steak meal 27 tl, local spirt & mixer and wine by the glass 7.50 tl the wine can be expensive some 40+ tl but we did notice that the house wines seemed a lot cheaper than previous yrs between 20-29 tl and as the exchange rate was 2.58 -£1 these worked out bet £8-£10 a bottle.
The new paving along the seafront is a good inprovement but why take the stalls away fron the canal what was a well lit colourful place with lights reflecting from the canal making for a good stroll after evening meal is now dark and dismal, everyone we spoke to mentioned the canal and saw it as a bad move, in our case we would walk by the canal to have a drink in different bars after our meal but this year we only walked that way once prefering to walk where more was going on and as a result of which we spent our money in the bars in those areas, we did go for a drink in one of the resturants along the canal but the lack of people walking up and down was very noticable compared to previous years and the manager said he did more trade in the final weeks in Oct 2010 than he was doing now.
Trips this year we decided to be beach bums and stay put in Icmeler apart from a day at Turunc x water taxi and an evening run into Marmaris via dolmus.
All to soon holiday over return to airport by ICR transfer good run and driver handed out cold bottles of water to all, no delay with Flight in fact it left 25mins early and arrived 30mins earlier in Manchester but the delay waiting for bags was 1hr 15mins someone said they had trouble with the cargo doors I think as we were early the baggage handlers were not waiting for our plane and we ended up waiting for them.
All in all another great holiday in Icmeler and will be booking with ICR again once dates sorted out.
