Just got back last week after 7 nights, just a quick review of what i thought of the place since i last went in sept 2009
Weather was mixed as you would expect in may, some cloud, bit of rain, but mostly nice and hot.
Lots of changes regarding the bars, with many being renovated, some for the better, some for the worse imo
All the centre part near the tourism info box has been done up,with new fountains
Beach front has changed, the small row of stalls down one of the streets just off the beach has gone (not the one each side of the canal, there still all there)
Bars in icmeler were quiet, and we missed what we liked about them with the shows and breakdancers etc, i guess this is because its early season, and it hasnt got going yet, so wont be going early may again.
we stayed at the Rhodes apartments,(again), and thats where we are going back to in september, imo, its the best apartment block in the area. The surrounding roads in the old town have been mainly block paved to bring the kerb height down from 2ft to normal stepping height, thank god, so its more push chair friendly.
What i wasnt so impressed with was the prices, they have risen quite a lot since september 2009
The lira granted, was only 2.20 max to the £, but the price of efes was 4 lira everywhere pretty much, and i expect this to rise to 5 lira in June guaranteed, still decent value though
Price of a "Meat dish" has doubled in the last 2 years, you wont get much changed from 30 lira for a decent steak meal,Charlies,Vinces and the Set all about 26 lira for a steak
You can shop around on a budget and get cheaper food, but in the main, its 20 lira plus per main meal
Stay away from bar street in marmaris, its 50 lira for 4 drinks so i was told, and the hassle from the locals towards woman was unbelieable
Vince done a excellent steak meal btw
Dolmus Bus is now 2 lira per trip, boat trip to marmaris is 7.5 lira
All in all, i love it in icmeler and its still great value compared to the rest of Europe, but in the next few years it will interesting to see what route it takes as the prices increase even further as the locals fall into the trap of increasing prices to increase profit margins, I can see this practice having a adverse effect on the resort and it becoming a not so desirable place to visit,
Just as a indication, we spent just under £700 in 7 days, eating out every night
Just for those looking for a cheap flight, little tip if you fancy bristol airport and dont mind flying with easyjet
we just booked 3 flights on the 10th sept flying from bristol at 07:45,coming back on the 19th at 21:00
