Our great time in Icmeler

Postby andytaj » 12 Sep 2009 15:08

This was our first time in Icmeler. It will certainly not be our last.

We had booked in January, not knowing about ICR. So I will not mention our apartments by name, suffice to say they were extremely good and we were made very welcome by the attentive staff there.

My wife booked a day's boat trip through one of the street traders, and despite our reservations, we had a great time. Even the Russians were entertaining, dancing and joining in with the English on board. A very pleasant day out.

I came and saw Donna to book the Mud baths trip, but unfortunately had to cancel as my wife got stung by a Turkish Ninja Wasp and didn't want to risk the mud. Thanks Donna for being so understanding about the cancellation.

This next bit won't please Donna, but we really did enjoy eating at, as our son called it " Baron Valentino the 23rd"
Barons to you. Their Turkish Iron Pan dish was excellent. They gave us free cocktails as it was our sons friends 19th birthday that day.
We ate at Yakamos. Also very good.
Richards Place had lovely food, but very slow service.
Amigos had friendly staff but rubbish food.
We would also recommend Florida and the Three Bells.
Weird moment of the holiday: Coming from the market on Tuesday, a bit thirsty.... The 1st bar we came across, we went inside and sat down. We hadn't noticed the name, when this Yorkshire man came up to my wife.
"A'raat Luv? Tha looks raat Thirsteh!" Chris from Yorkshire's Travellers Rest. Very friendly welcome and very strange in Icmeler's back streets.

Our apartments owner Ali seems to be "Well connected" He has told us that the hassle will be clamped down on even more next season, as will the Russian "Ladies"

We got some great deals on jewellery in the Gold Center. Also my sons and their friend used the Metropol Sportswear shop for a lot of their Genuine Fakes and "Quality Crap"! Shakeil was very helpful there. Apparently, I'm now his brother!

In conclusion, we shall definitely return to Icmeler. My sons and their friends are keen to do a self catering holday in a more central part of town. Donna has already given me some idea's as where they could stay. It's taken us a bit of time to find this lovely place, so we now have to make up for that and return as soon as finances allow.

Andy, Tracey and family.
