Our holiday

Postby skilly » 19 Sep 2008 15:44

We were picked up at 4am to go to Manchester and had a good flight to Dalaman. We arrived at our non ICR apts at 5pm to find we had been put in the attic room. I politley pointed out that we wanted a higher floor but not that high! We were quickly given a better appt.
The weather was very hot ,even the Turks said it was too hot for them! It had started to cool down on Wednesday, the day before we came home.
We had quite a few lovely meals in Captain Bullshits, our appts restaurant, Miami Restaurant in the old village, 3N Birol in Marmaris, we also had a few late night snacks in Sevgi Bar.

We enjoyed a few drinks in various bars. We met Sugar in the Buffalo bar and he is quite a good singer on the kareoke :)
We also went to the Havana Bar and met Zsa Zsa who seems a nice man, he said he remembered us from many years ago when we used to go to the Miami bar when it was in Icmeler.

We went to the Elif restaurant and met Ferhat ( I think that is his name) My husband was ill with a bad stomach on our last night and Ferhat offered to make him a turkish remedy for it, which i thought was kind.

We enjoyed a few nights at the Geordie bar, Sevgi, Joe's bar, Romance and the Majestic .
When we arrived we were getting 2.10 lira for a £1 but when we were coming home it had gone up to 2.25 lira.

We did not see any lager louts, just people enjoying themselves. We met lots of nice tourists and had many good chats with different people, it was great :D

We went into ICR to put a donation in the box for Husnu's family. We met Michelle who gave me my prize for being one of the top 50 posters.

We enjoyed it very much but we had a couple of incidents in the first few days, and if it had been our first time in Icmeler, i don't think we would have been that keen on going again.

1st We were sat on a bench on the beach road and a grape seller tried to sell us some grapes . We said 'No thank you' but he gave me a couple of grapes and then walked off. A few minutes later he came back with a carton and I said no again. he put them down on the bench and said 1 lira. We decided to pay him and I opened my purse, my husband took 5 lira out and the grape seller must have thought that we didn't understand the money so he dipped into my purse and took 2, 20 lira notes!! By this time another Turkish man was with him ( someone later said they were brothers) If I had been alone they would have taken that money but my husband is quite a big man and he said 'Give me that money back!!' as loudly as possible, so they gave him 19 liras change. My husband then said give me the rest, so they gave him the other 20, They then ripped the 5 liras in half and said it was now no good and the bank would not accept it so they would keep it. my husband said no you don't ,give it back to me which they did.
When we told our Turkish friends in different bars who we have known many years they were apologising on behalf of the Turkish people and were disgusted. One even took the torn 5 Lira and gave us a new one.

2nd We went to a bar to watch rugby and had about 3 drinks, we paid the bill and waited for the change and it didn't arrive, when we asked, the waiter said we had told him to put it in the tip box. We never do this, but we always leave a tip once we have gotten the change, but it was the cheek of him taking the change without us saying, it wasn't just a couple of liras. This has never happened to us before.

All in all we had a good time and would go again but some of the people are not as trustworthy as we have always beleived and this is very sad.
