Been back a week ... our review

Postby Neets36 » 24 Jun 2008 20:15

Well its taken me a week to write a review, I just couldnt face it, the thought of only having a week this year because we're going to Thailand in November.

Anyway, I still got the lurch when we came over the hill from Marmaris and saw the beach and seafront .. I was relaxed straight away. No problems with flights etc so we were raring to go. First stop, Titanic to see Oscar and have my fave meal Menemen - it was as delicious as I remember it. We also ate at Venice (twice), Travellers, Chef (the fish in salt was delicious), Florida and also a new place (to us) on the same road as the travellers called Selam, that was probably the best meal we had. If you do go there the chocolate balls are to die for ....

The weather was red hot and we spent a couple of days by the pool and the rest at the Deniz Kapisi beach being looked after by the boys. It was pure heaven.

We went for a Turkish Bath which was nice as we havent done it for a couple of years.

After meals we had a wander to see Mehmet at the Korsan which seems to be very lively, Venice - the same as it usually is, Linakers - my kind of music, I'd have stayed in there all night if me and Nick had been on our own .... has the DJ got my CD's Mr Toohey????

I've also got to mention the football .... Sunday night was our last night and our friends had all gone back but me and Nick ended up in the Sports Bar after doing the rounds to say goodbye and seeing all the glum faces up and down the canal at 2 - 0 ... well we got in the bar and the first goal went in .. I think the locals were a bit pleased ... then the second went in and the place ((and streets) errupted a bit .... when the third one went in, it fair brought a tear to my eye and I reminded myself why I love the place so much - everyone was celebrating, flares, pipping horns on cars, singing and oh my god, how glad I was that I saw it ... fantastic. Money cant buy that kind of experience.

We were getting 2.4 exchange rate which wasnt bad really and we didnt seem to spend any more than we usually do.

Flight home was okay, on time and everything and I dont know about anyone else but time flies at Dalaman airport - just as well really given the prices ....

So, the moral of my story is that if you cant wait till the next holiday in November, book one for 24th August for a week .... so we did :D :D :D Well, you cant take it with you can you????

Fantastic review, you seem like you had a great time.

I bet the atmosphere was fantastic when Turkey won the football.

Sounds daft but I cant explain it ..... it was like they'd won the whole competition ...... so emotional.

I'm so excited now we're going back, I'm no longer like a bear with a sore head.

I know what you mean, I was in the dream 3 bells on the sunday when they scored and won the game, the whole street went wild, people screaming and shouting, cars beeping their horns and everyone waving flags it went on for at least an hour and a half. it was crazy hehe

Hi neets. Know excatley what you mean. we got back last week and felt really miserable as we normally go in June and September. However our little boy is at school now so cant take him out of school again this year so we decided we could only go the once. The plan was to go spain for a week in August. Not very exciting!!!. But like you say you cant take it with you so weve just booked to go last week in August for 10 days. Yippee im so excited. Maybe see you there

Great review.Sorry we will miss the footie this year in Icmeler. We were there in 2002 when they qualified for the semi finals of the world cup.All I can say is I have never quite seen anything like it in my life. Boy do the Turkish people know how to celebrate a win.
Glad you had a great holiday.

Great review neets. I know just how you feel when you mention the lurch you feel in your stomach when you know you are nearly home....words just can't describe the feeling. :)

great review Neets, really wish we could've been there for the wins, but your review had us there for a bit ha ha
glad to see you've done the sensible thing about August - just did the same for us for next year (Dominican for 2 weeks in May, but couldn't resist booking for August in Icmeler)
