Thanks Tinkerbelle, we visited there 11 years ago on honeymoon. We also visited Kekova (sunken city) and Myra (Santa Claus was born here). There is a lot to see round Fethiye

Some really good photo's there - why was the town deserted?

I think it was Greek people who lived there and then Turkish people reclaimed the land. The inhabitants left very quickly consequently, there were still pots, etc. left in the properties. I think this is correct, if i am wrong someone will put us right

am sure I read somewhere that the Greeks and Turks did some kind of swap in the 1920s??

Eerie definitely sums up those pictures - amazing

You are right it was a forced moved in 1923.
Can I suggest anyone who is interested in this should get hold of a copy of " Birds without Wings" by Louis de Benernires,not sure about the spelling. The book was inspired by Kayakoy and is a great read for anyone who loves Turkey and is interested in its history. It is readable fiction but with a insight into the real Turkey.

Amazing pics tinkerbelle

I willl be giving Kayakoy a visit this year as I have 2wks in Hisaronu.

This place Is on my to do list.along with a few others.

Did you use any of the restaurants that over look kayakoy village area.? I have heard the food is amazing and the views even better.

am off to Egypt in 5.5 weeks and that sounds like a great read - and at least I'll be able to have a bit of Turkey in my head!!

Absolutely fantastic photos tinkerbelle. I wonder if anybody could tell me how far from Icmeler it is, as I would love to go and have a walk amongst those little houses. Never seen anything like it before, I think its just amazing!

I went on my own so I just had a drink in one of the small bars. The bus goes from Fethiye every hour through Ovacik and turns off at Hisonaru. There are supposed to be some really good restaurants there.
The large pinkish building in the last photo is a Greek orthodox church, you can still see little bits of the mosaics .

Admin this could end up being more than an overnight stay We have considered a week in Patara then 17 nights in Icmeler but can't bear the thought of packing twice
