Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

Would like some advice from fellow Icmerlites.

My husband and I have been to Icmeler 5 times but we have always had one or two of our sons with us. Anyway after 23 years we have at last got the opportunity to holiday on our own without any of our 4 sons. Our 15 year old has decided it is boring now to come on holiday with mum & dad, so he is going to be staying with his eldest brother and wife.
We both love Icmeler and so my question is can any of you reccomend places to eat and drink and places to visit. I'm asking as we always went to the livelier places in the past to keep our sons happy. Now we would like something a bit quieter and maybe romantic
After all it will be like a second honeymoon. (well maybe not as we are in our early 50's).

Hi Sanjo

I can recommend The Lighthouse and the Olive Tree for really good food in more peaceful surroundings - both have quiet music playing in the background. They Wayside is also very nice which is up by the Tansas. The Chef and Love Boat are also very good.

Take a stroll down to the Cafe Del Mar - just past the Laguna Hotel which is quiet with fabulous views over Icmeler bay - especially lovely by night with the moonlight shimmering on the sea (very romantic ) This is probably my favourite place to go and chill late evening.... you could even take a moonlit stroll along the beach (!!!)

Head up to Rosa's cafe in the village (10 mins from Cafe Anne) for her Turkish Cuisine night on a Wednesday or Friday. You'll need to book so wander up for lunch and find it in daylight ! It's lovely and peacful here - a great place to try fabulous authentic home-cooked Turkish food (and it's cheap too!)

The Magic Garden is also lovely, right in the centre (tucked behind The Lighthouse). You could forget you were in the centre of Icmeler, it's a little oasis of calm!

If you hire a carm about 20 minutes outside of Mamaris on the way to Gokova is Cinar Restaurant. This is a fabulous restauarnt, popular with Turks (which speaks for itself really). It's always good here.

One I haven't tried yet but has good reports is Marios down on Icmeler beach. Food is supposed to be great with superb views over the sea from the roof terrace.... one I'm going to be trying when I'm back out there in May!

thanks for your post. The places you reccomend sound lovely. Just the sort of thing we are after.
Even though we have been to Icmeler 5 times we always seemed to stay on the main drag with all the restaurants down the canal just to keep our sons happy.
We always said we'd love to visit on our own and visit places the teenagers wouldn't want to go and now it looks as if we have got our opportunity this year.
Part of me will find it sad to be leaving our last son at home but the other half is looking forward to having some quality time together after all the years of bringing up the boys and family holidays.

hello Sanjo we go ti Icmeler alone now and it certainly brings out the romance in us both we have agreat time without our daughter and w are in our early 50.s,wife keeps saying im having a mid life crisis,lol just had my fitrst tattoo done at the age of 53 so just enjoy age doesnt matter

I think thats what my hubs is looking for.
What places do you and your wife visit when your in Icmeler?

Hi Sandy. I have some photo's of Cinar, Mario's and I think the Lighthouse. I've lost a lot from my computer recently and can't find them at the mo. Will post them for you in due course. If you go to Gene's post though, Bars and Restaurants you can browse to your hearts content as he has posted loads of them and they are great photo's

You could try Cafe Rosa, in the old village. Lovely atmosphere

try the waterfall rest behind oscars great food and service. then pop into oscars for a drink afterwards, and have a look at the entertainment

the lemon tree is a fantastic place.its only been open 2 years.its so laid back & relaxing.try the chef billy pie.kemal is the owner.

Isn't the Lemon Tree around the back of the Villa Mar, near the Bellevue Hotel?

Sanjo sorry being so lonng coming back to you,we were in Linekars most nights because they play music from our era Tamla Motown,if we fancied some peace and quiet we had a cpl drinks in cactus by secret garden. during the day our fav watering hople was coco beach watching the world by and great views all round

this year will be our 4th time in icemeler, and i can honestly say we,ve never had a bad meal. but i,ve got to say the lighthouse has got to be the best, the chef being second, then afterwards a little strole to the magic garden, or the secret garden as some may call it, for a drink in a very romantic setting.

Cinar Restaurant is about 20 minutes drive out of Marmaris, just off the main road.
If you get the opportunity to go you should try it.
I'm making myself hungry thinking about the lovely mezes served with freshly-baked Turkish bread... delicious!

Bigchig - the Lighthouse and Chef are a couple of my favourits too - have you tried the Olive Tree (Bonjour Hotel) - run by Chalie and King (ex-Lighthouse head waiters) very good!

Any idea how much Cinar would be from Icmeler in a taxi return??
Is it best to go in the day or at nite? Mozzies are a major consideration and we'd love to go for an early am brekkie if that' the case

I'm sure Admin/Rami could advise on the cost of a taxi - it's not that far out... or perhaps a ICR could arrange a weekly group outing for dinner there??

Great place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner - though in season it gets very very busy of an evening as it's so popular with the Turks.

I know what you mean, I wouldn't want to drive over there either!!! It's scary enough on the English roads these days!
