Fantastic pictures. Brings back all the memories of when I was a kid going over on the ferry to New Brighton with my nan on a Sunday. Do you remember the out door baths on the sea front and the fair?

We used to go cockling to Moreton and come back with big bags of cockles and my dad used to cook them when we got home.

Then, when I got to about 17 a gang of us used to go on the Royal Iris on a Saturday night and sail up and down the river and have a good dance as well.

Those were the days.

I had forgotten what a superb waterfront the Mersey has. It's been ages since I've been on the ferry. The pictures of the cathedrals, Pier Head and the Liver Buildings are great.

Thanks for posting them they brought back many memories.

By the way, did you catch many fish?

Carol.

Hello Carol

Glad you enjoyed looking at the above pictures, and good to hear that it's brought fond memories back for you

The Royal Iris passed us a few times yesterday, all in all I would say about 8 times, I've not been on the Iris for a few years myself but still remember being onboard the boat.

I don't know Moreton that well only the Fishing Tackle shop that's there. But like you I used to go cockling with my Father but this was off Southport Pier.

I think the 7meg photo's I took look a lot better than the resuced ones above, they have come out really good of the Pier Head and Cathedral, trouble is I can't post a 7meg photo as you would be scrolling forever on the PC :)

Fishing was very poor to be honest, we all caught fish but not a great number, also the other 6 boats that went out did not catch that many for the time of year but I think it's still to warm so hopefully when the weather gets colder more fish will move into the River and feed.

Still I was glad to get out for a change and catching Fish is a Bonus

Just to add.

You see the Hercules Plane in the Photo, well it went over us along with the Nimrod yesterday afternoon and landed at Speke Airport. I thought it was a bit odd to see these Two Aircraft over us thought maybe somebody had got lost or something in the River but then on second thoughts the Skipper would have told us as we have the Radio etc. Anyway I watched BBC Northwest tonight and they mentioned about Ben Nowak from Speke who sadly lost his life on Rememberance day along with three others over in Iraq, very sad indeed, maybe the Hercules had something to do with this :!:
