Mel if you read the icmeler forum you will find your answers, also you will find the council are not behind it, nor did they have any influence over it.

It is a real shame to see that the stalls have gone as it was a lovely walk up and down there after your evening meal. I believe that they will be relocated to an area close to the town hall. It might not sound like an ideal alternative at first but it will bring more people into another area of Icmeler and will help to benefit the shops, bars and restaurants in that area.

Thanks for photos Barnie it's good to see what goes on out of season .

Am I right in thinking its the stalls next to the Majestic Restaurant that have been demolished?

If it is what about the stalls on the other side of the canal ? Have those gone aswell ?

Hi jollygreengiant,
I believe it is all the market stalls, along both sides of the canal.

im new to icmeler. usually go to marmaris. any one got any pics of the stalls before they did this. they seem to do strange things like this in turkey. they ruined the outdoor market in marmaris and a few good bars along the front. :(

It is quite depressing to see the stalls have gone. We went into that area in the evening for a meal and stroll around the stalls and my husband who has poor mobility always found a small seat to wait for us whilst we wandered. It will not be the same without the stalls. Hopefully there will be facilities for sitting where they are relocated, otherwise we will not be able to go and as a shopaholic my holiday will not be the same.

I found this while looking on you tube earlier, taken a few days ago down by the canal. I hope that they do something with the area, it doesn't look very inviting at the moment. Like a lot of other folk I used to like a wee walk down round the stalls in the evening.

it will make the bottom part of the canal very dark and quiet compared to what it is like when all the stalls were there
looks horrible :(

Hi Katie

It looks awful now they have taken the stalls down. I used to love walking down there in the evening. Hope they put something up in their place as it looks a mess at the moment and can't see it looking much better even in the dark!

At last work has started to tidy up the canal following the demolition of the stalls. The tiled floors have been dug up and debris is now being removed. Have to wait and see if it 's to be repaved this year.

It will be interesting to see how the new area for the market stalls will be received and if any new bars or restaurants spring up there too. Who knows, we may find a new area to explore with new friends to make.
