Marmaris Castle...

Hi there,

I'm just curious as to how many of you out there have ventured up to the castle in Marmaris as it always seems very quiet whenever I go there...

I have never visited it either, but after reading about some peoples visits, I am going to visit in October when I return to Icmeler.

Fab, I don't know why but I feel a need to get involved with promoting the castle as it really is a hidden treasure amongst the tat of the bazar...

I went with my brother this summer and called in at a lovely little shop on the way up. The shop itself was full of the usual tourist stuff but at much more reasonable prices but what struck me was that there was real Turkish hospitality there.

The shop was run by an old lady and her daughter and we were welcomed with lemon cologne, apple tea and we were 'tak'ed with the turkish eye. It was just like turkey used to be 10 years back and made me feel very nostalgic...

Flora, can you give me some directions how to get there please? Landmarks I could head from is the Ataturk statue, or Gima, or Taj Mahal.

We always visit the castle when on our holiday to marmaris,i love the lady that owns the shop on the hill just before the castle. We always buy something from her,i have a photo taken every year with her and she doesnt seem to age.Who has never been to the castle you must visit it,the views are fantastic looking out to sea,you might even get the chance to see the tortoises, just head for the bazaar and its signposted the castle

It is signeposted and is located just behind bar street.

If you are heading from the ATaturk statue towards the marina you can find the litlle side street leading up to it just behind the mosque in the central square of the bazar.
