Olu Deniz

Postby wicked » 20 Jan 2010 11:18

Hi everybody!

Can anyone tell me if there is a trip to Olu Deniz from Icmeler? I went there once a few years ago from Marmaris but with all the stops is took forever! I was wondering if there is maybe a boat trip?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I'm aware there are no boat trips. I was in Icmeler last June and saw nothing advertised. Similarly I was in Oludeniz last September and again saw nothing to Icmeler.

Hi Steve and John

Rami has sent me a PM to say he doesnt know of any boat trips to Olu Deniz, but if you were to hire a car it would only take a couple of hours. I really dont fancy driving in Turkey though! I was wondering if you maybe got a few of you together and hired one of the boats at Marmaris habour complete with Captain then maybe you could go that way. Cant understand why there isnt a boat trip there already though! Thanks for your replies guys.

I sat speaking to four people one lunch time in the Mandalin restaurant last September who were doing this trip in reverse Olu Deniz to Icmeler and return.
They expressed that they were only spending about 3hours in Icmeler as they had not realised it would take them over 3hours travelling in both directions. Never the less I believe they were having a nice day as it had given them a chance to see a bit of Turkey as the only other times they had spent on the roads were during nightime airport transfers.

we did see this trip advertised last year, it was 65 lira each, we decided to hire a car and go ourselves, it took about 2 hours but realized how much petrol we used that it would have been cheaper going on the organized trip

Ive done this run myself and you cant really "bomb it" along the road from Marmaris to the turn off for the Fethiye road as there are speed cameras dotted here and there and unless you know what to look for you will get done.

The concentration needed to drive and also to keep an eye out for a maroon car on the other side of the road parked up is unreal.

I mustn't have been far off though and maybe even did it faster as I have done Dalaman airport in an hour early doors and its only the same again really.

We did this journey last June. Left Ovacik (only 10 minutes from Olu) at 10.30 and arrived in Icmeler before 1pm. The driver was really careful and definately didn't 'bomb it'.
