Hey i'm new here, but been lurking for a wee while - hello!

My name's Catie & i've been going to Icmeler with my family for the past 3 years & going back in May/June...can't wait!!

As regular visitors to Icmeler, we all seem to know that getting your money exchanged in the resort gives a better rate than in the UK, but does anyone have any tips on where to go to get the best rate??

Normally me & the family exchange about £50 each in the UK (plenty enough for first day/night) and exchange the rest whilst we're out there.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I thought this would be handy for people who are new to the resort or only been once before but are going back.

For me, i've found The Wonder Boys (Next to The Waterfall restaurant) to offer the best rate. Last July the general rate was sitting around 2.41, but in the wonder boys, they were offering 2.50!

Where are your best exchange rate places?

been going to icmeler now for a while and the best 2 places ive found are the market under icr and the little shop opposite the selen 2 hotel round the back of the geordie bar. Hope this helps not sure if we will be there this year as we have a new arrival on the way so have 4 or 5 efes for me cheers.

They may have the best rates, but I wont be useing them ever again. They sold me 600 fake cigarettes, and I know people will say you can't buy genuine cigs in Icmeler but I have never had any problems buying them in the past. But the ones from the supermarket below ICR were totally fake. So yes they are good for changing money but just be aware they will try and get you to buy cigarettes while you are there, show you the ones with the Turkish Tax stamp on then when you open the caron they dont have turkish tax stamp on and the printing on the packet is terrible, unfortuanately it was my last day and didnt have time to take them back, but he's going to get them thrown on his counter when I go back in June. What annoys me is we have always gone there and he remembers us as has always welcomed us back, then they go and do things like this and just spoil it for themselves all for a few extra Lira.

Well, we're non-smokers so that's not even a consideration for us - as long as they've got good rates, I'm more than happy to go there!

I found the supermarket opposite the selan as already mentioned very good and he does geniune cigarettes just ask for Halife

Supermarkets do seem to give the best rates. I found that the supermarket opposite Romance was giving excellent rates last year, typically they would be giving 2.45TL if the rest of the resort was 2.4TL. Not a huge difference but over the course of 2 weeks enough to buy some small refreshments

I have been going to icmeler since 2005 and have always changed my money at wonderboys - murat (leo) prides himself on having the best and most up to date rate for exchange.

Did try a supermarket one year and we got a lot lower rate than murat was offering. We could not change the money with him that day as he was away from resort and we needed cash quickly.

For us it will always be wonderboys.

They sold me 600 fake cigarettes, and I know people will say you can't buy genuine cigs in Icmeler but I have never had any problems buying them in the past.

Steve, I am shocked to see this. Is it at all possible that you take a picture of these fake cigs and post it on here so everyone is aware of what the difference is from the genuine ones... or maybe open a new topic with it??

I was under the impression that selling fake cigs was totally out...how naive of me...

Yes of course I will take a pic for you. I will do it later today. I have reported them to that e-mail address tourists can e-mail. They have promised me that it will be looked into and that he would be getting a visit from the Police, as this is Tax Avation and it is taken very seriously.

When we were there in June we found the big supermarket on the corner across the road from Deja Vu always had a higher rate than anywhere else.

Will try that one, as we usually use the smaller one just up from there opposite Pretije Apartments. Usually get a resonable exchange rate there, but you can get slightly better I just use that one for concenience.

We used the little shop next to the Elvis bar and always got 2.40 at least.

And their bread was delicious.


Oh, and their fags were genuine too.

I shan't be needing the ciggies this year, because like most of you..........

Aye we used that one as well, when I was to drunk to walk along the road, HaHa, Thats where you should have got your fags from.

I've just noticed the exchange rate has dropped bellow 2.4TRY for the first time in a long while.

Rew I noticed that the other day...It was sitting at 2.26 on M&S website

Hopefully it'll shoot up to 2.60 like it did last year in the first few months of the year!

It allways drops this time of year, but like you say it goes back up. I will be happy with a rate of 2.40-2.45 like it was last year in resort.

yeah last years rate was quite good at 2.4 - 2.45 if you get that then your lucky

Just checked the Cheque Centre website. They're offering 1 GBP=2.254 TRY. Presumably from what's been said the rate in Icmeler will be higher.
