Custom Flights ceased trading

Postby dotty » 24 Nov 2009 19:59

Just seen this announcement:

"We regret to advise that Custom Flights ceased trading earlier today.

When you made your booking with Custom Flights you paid a small charge (either £1.00 or £2.50 per passenger) for ATOL protection which means you are entitled to claim a refund through the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The CAA provide instructions as to how to make a claim on their website.

Link to CAA Make a Claim web page.

You will now need to make a new flight reservation with a different flight provider.

TEMPORARY ADDITIONAL NOTICE

WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT CUSTOMERS WITH A CUSTOM FLIGHTS BOOKING DEPARTING AFTER 1 MAY 2010 SHOULD AWAIT FURTHER INSTRUCTION AND TAKE NO ACTION AT PRESENT.

IT IS POSSIBLE YOUR FLIGHT WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER FLIGHT PROVIDER. WE EXPECT THIS TO BE CLARIFIED WITHIN 24 HOURS"

Hope this doesn't affect anyone on this forum.

Thanks Fanny.

Just been looking on Holiday Truths, there is a guy posted on there who works for the travel agent we booked with. He says it is looking increasingly likely that the CAA will sort it and they will just be transfered, for people who have paid a deposit or paid in full will still have to complete a claim form, but this isnt for a refund it is just so the CAA can pay the new provider. They will try and keep flight changed to a minimum, so not looking to bad. If this is the situation I feel lucky as thinks could of been alot worse.

After reading this I just phoned our travel agent and told him this and he told me that all customflights have been cancelled and anyone who had booked flights with them will have to re-book. Its a total nightmare especially at this time of the year. You should maybe phone your travel agent and see what they are saying but that is what Ive just been told by my travel agent.

Sorry for being the bearer of bad news!

My flight is all sorted, the agency we booked with have managed to get us the same flight with another flight provider, same price inc baggage,we still have to fill in a claim form from CAA but to send it to our agent and they will forward it and arrange for the deposit we payed to be transferred to the new flight provider.

I think I saw that chap's posts and it's nice to know there are other firms out there like ICR who go the extra mile. Still got everything crossed for you!

Mine are all sorted. I feel very lucky as I know in previous cases where companies have gone bust people have lost there flights completly and had problems claiming. Just to fill a claim form out for the deposit.
