Hiya
I came back last Friday after 2weeks in Icmeler and your right it is quiet.
Alot of the restaurants were very quiet and the guys were saying Icmeler as a whole was very quiet for May.
We went May last year too and it was alot busier.
No idea why the decrease in tourists..may have something to do with the Bird Flu i dont know...think i had eggs and chicken every day!! haha

Yeah it was quiet when I was there as well, I kinda liked it like that though. The people I spoke to about it said they thought it was the bird flu. Is it still quiet? I'm going on the 12th June.

It was very quiet when we were there the week before last. Seemed werid. Can really only put it down to the premature panic over bid flu. You can bet many people are now regretting already that they changed their holiday to a different destination earlier in the year. Hoefully things will pick up as the season progresses. I must admit I ate the chicken and the eggs without a further thought!

From what I have read on another forum, it is pretty quiet in all the Turkish resorts at the moment and doesn't seem likely to improve much for the rest of the season.

Whether any of this is due to the bird flu scare or the world cup, I don't know but like Tracy, I think that people not taking children of school during term time is bound to have an effect. Hopefully things will improve during the school holidays but then the prices rocket and many families with children just can't afford to pay them.

It seems that holiday bookings worldwide, including for the USA and the Caribean, are also down for this year so its not just Turkey with the problem.

We back last from Gumbet and it was very quiet too. Booked for Icmeler in August (fourth time at Golmar Hotel). Could it have anything to do with lots of flights being cancelled/changed? Ours was changed from Edinburgh to Glasgow on a different date but as luck would have it, this quite suits us so not a problem. But I can imagine if flights are changed or cancelled the alternatives might not suit everyone and they would have the right to cancel and get a full refund.

Ok before this goes on to lets have a guess on what it is I will let you know exactly what it is.

Bird flu scare in the UK rags appeared in early January so that kept people from booking.

The people that book in January I would say that 75% at least are booking for May and early June so I will blame the UK rags for the quietness of Turkey at the moment.

Late June and July/August as normal with very little availability for accommodation and as flights were halved as a result of lack of interest in January then the flights that are left are so expensive then hmmm I wonder if there will be any more added.

We booked ours at the time it was all over the papers, didn't put us off. But we've been going to Turkey for the last six years and it seems there's always something that maybe puts people off whether it be earthquakes, the war in Iraq or the bombs.

Having been to Icmeler fo the last 8 years we decided against retuning this year. Last year was disappointing the resort seemed to have changed, prices had increased a great deal and many of the local business people's attitude had changed i.e less friendly. I think the increase in alcohol prices were due to increased taxation. We all agreed (4 of us) that we have seen the best of Icmeler and it will eventually end up like Marmaris. I hope I'm wrong perhaps one of the reasons it's quiet is other people feel the same way. Do you really want McDonalds and Burger King in Icmeler.
We have all had some great times in Icmeler and we will miss it.
:( :( And lastly that airport is enough to put anybody off perhaps the new one will be better. I bet it won't be cheaper

Can't disagree more Peejay. I've been to Icmeler for the last four years and yes there has been an increase in prices but I'm sure you have had an increase in wages and an increase in your cost of living in England. The prices in Icmeler this year are the same as last year and with the high exchange rate actually work out cheaper.
As far as people being less friendly, I certainly have not seen this. Maybe it is your perception and just being used to it so that is is less noticable.
I was surprised at the airport this year. Prices although high were the same as UK airports.

We returned last year for the 2nd time, and to be honest found everyone just as friendly as the year before - if not more so as people recognised us from the year before, and welcomed us with "open arms" the hassle we thought last year was less irritating than the first time, but maybe thats because we knew what to expect. Met some lovely friends and cant wait to see them again in 5 weeks.

As far as prices are concerned, we thought everything was still reasonable, cheaper than here, but if it was the same price as here wouldnt care, we save for our holiday and pay what we need to pay, prices in other parts of the world are more expensive anyway.

Cant wait to be back 5 weeks on friday.

With regards to burgar king and macdonalds, if there was one in Icmeler - so what? if people want to use these thats up to them, but I certainly wouldnt be using them!

Icmeler will never be like Marmaris. We were there in May and everyone was as friendly as ever.It was quiet but as mentioned I think it is down to the media and birdflu. My friend has apartments in Kalkan and it is also quiet. If you are not going this year its your loss.I will be going back at least another two times this year to get my icmeler fix.

I was in Icmeler for a week begining of June and yes i agree it was very quiet compared to last September. I wasnt worried at all about visiting again i love the place, friends in restaurants were all concerned how quiet it was they reckoned it was maybe the bird flu scare :? i went on the Government website for curiosity and Bird flu has been around since 2003!!! So i guess its like everything else people panic but if we all live our lives by what the papers say we would live a very dull life.
So all you people out there DONT WORRY continue to visit wonderful Icmeler im going again for 2weeks on 31st August I CANT WAIT ..... must start packing :D :D :D :D
