I was in The Gondol chatting to Ollie on a SUNDAY and there was a few people in there, one was an elderly man sitting watching the football on the TV.
There rep came in and he got up, she said no Jimmy your on the later flight, so he sat back down again.
A lovely lady from Belfast came over to chat to us and I mentioned him, she said do you not know what happened, well I said no , just thought he was watching the TV
It turned out he was 83 ( I think ) and he had arrived with his daughter on the Sunday previous. His daughter had skin cancer and was none to well, so she had a wheel chair and he used to push her up and down the canal, on the Monday, she felt unwell and went the doctors / hospital who did some tests, and wrote something on her chart. Then sent her home.
On the Tuesday she had a fall, Ollie from The Gondol called the ambulance and they went off to hospital, she died later that day. The poor man Jimmy was obviously devastated, he was now out there alone with no one. His rep from the travel company came and said there were no flights for him to go home, and nothing they could do.
Poor Jimmy sat in The Gondol from WEDNESDAY till the following SUNDAY alone every day, while his Travel Company did nothing for him. He phoned his family and said he was ok so they didn't go out to him either. Thank you to everyone in the apartments who helped him, made sure he ate and looked after him. Also to the very lovely irish lady who was just on hols in Icmeler at the time , who also went to visit him and hug him every day.
I never heard when they flew his daughters body home but I was told it was not on the same flight as he went on, which might I add was the flight they BOTH should on flown home on together.
Jimmy may your lovely daughter Helen RIP and I hope one day you may re visit Icmeler in her memory, if anyone has heard of anything else about this please let me know.
To his travel comany, shame on you, your a disgrace.
RIP Helen
