Birdy believe me you will not get a straight answer from ANY bar or restaurant owner in Turkey.

They all twist the truth and have for many years done so in the end they believe it themselves.

I have watched the same bars and restaurants all season bursting most nights and if you ask them people they will all say the same.

I beg to differ these owners in question are personal friends and not just someone i bumped into, and the reason i told their view is because it is a reasoned and honest slant on the subject rather than just a holiday makers opinion.
The vast majority of restaurants were almost empty whilst we were there 8 days ago and we were constantly mithered to go in being offered very cheap deals and even the ones ticking over were only doing so by offering a cheap deal ,only the better known restaurants such as trav rest - majestic and florida amongst others were kept quite busy and we only went in florida because of the deal they offered on the entrance.

The vast majority of restaurents I would say are doing well,it is a minority who cant get the backsides on the seats and there must be a reason for this that only the owners can put right.
This year has been a very good season for Icmeler and her restaurents and it hasnt finished yet by the amount of people still to visit from this forum alone and October will also be a very good month.

The restaurent owners over the last few years have had cause to moan but this season has been a bit of a bonanza for the majority.

The new restaurents and the ones in the old village may suffer for the simple reason there are to many up there.

Gene

ps My opinion.

We came home last Thursday and Icmeler was busier than we have ever seen it before and we have been 10 times approx.

I also think it will be busier still next year because the majority of first time visitors we spoke to ( and we chatted with lots of them) are definitely going back next year.

2007 and 2008 in August you could get into any restaurant and have a table straight away, this year we had to wait for a table at a quite a few, also thought the bars seemed to be busy, I have never seen so many people sitting outside Deniz Kapisa on a Saturday night.

Just back on Sunday night and we found that the town centre, the main hub with all the popular restaurants, was very busy and for the first time ever, we had to wait for a table in Venice. The further you go from the main drag, the quieter it became and it is obvious that the bars and restaurants in the more outlying areas toward the Old Village are struggling. We noticed that some had closed down since last year and from what we witnessed, this trend will continue. What really surprised us was the huge number of restaurants that were offering set menus even though it had been mentioned on here before we arrived.

It's still the same, lovely Icmeler that keeps growing on us. Roll on 2010.
