Where did you exchange it?

Exchange offices will charge - always use the supermarkets or bars for the best exchange rates with no tax or commission.

We usually use our Nationwide card now as there is no commission in Turkey and you get the international bank rate, always more than you get in resort.

In June, the exchange was 2.4 5and we were getting from 2.5 from the ATM machines using Nationwide.

Yes, if you use the proper exchange offices they will charge you tax or commission - best to change it in the bars or supermarkets, because you get a better rate anyway and no commission. The wee minimarket under the ICR offices always has one of the best rates.

we always take ££££££££s and get them exchanged in supermarkets or bars we know - never been charged commission

am almost sure on here somewhere a while back that someone wrote a cheque to be exchanged into TL and was charged a fee - for the tax/fee that the restaurauteur would have to pay???

We had the same problem with that exhange office, when our son went in there.

I was in the ICR office talking to Donna and told her about it. She said go back and ask them what they were playing at.

The man said there was a 7% tax. I stood my ground and told that as he had not mentioned this at the time (It was only 10 minutes previous) I wanted my sons sterling back. I held my ground and he eventually succumbed and gave me the sterling and I returned my sons Lira.

I meant to post this as a warning, but due to having tooooo much fun in Icmeler, it slipped my mind.

We always got 2.40 to the £ at the little shop by the Elvis bar.

Let this be another warning to newcomers to Icmeler.

The first time we came to Icmeler, we got almost stung at the change place on the main road, not far from Titanic.

First time, it was all nicey nicey, got the right amount of money as he said we would, and he gave us a card, and said we dont need our passport anymore.

The next time we went there, he shorted us a 20, counted it out twice in front of us, then put it in a little bag thing.

Luckily, I'm a very mistrusting git, and so I got it our and re-counted it in front of him, and lo and behold 20 lira missing. He miraculously found it on the desk under a book or something.

After that we used different offices and didn't have any issues.I then read on here, that supermarkets are the way to go, and never looked back.

The next year we stayed in Marmaris, and my dad went to use a change office, and guess what, they robbed him of a twenty. He listened to me after that, and started chagning his money at the supermarkets.

Supermarket below ICR is never getting my custom again. Fair enough you get a good exchange rate but bought 600 lambert and butler on my last day, when I got home and opened a carton they are total fakes and disgusting. So be warned don't buy cigs from them. I have bought them from the supermarket near Kurt Apartments in the past and they have been fine.

I would never buy any cigarettes or tobacco in resort, I always buy at Cardiff Airport or on the plane.

sorry to hear about that, but to be honest I don't think it's just that one supermarket
in my experience, the majority of UK brands sold in Icmeler are fake - either that or they use some exotic blend especially for the Turks hehe
so on the way out, I buy a supply on the plane and if i run out of those during my stay, I buy Turkish brands - that way I know what to expect and they are cheaper than the UK brands

On the return home, I always get my cigarettes oand on the return home, I get them at duty free at the airport - they are about the only thing that's cheap at Dalaman

Well I'll be buying them from the aiport in future, as I said always bought them from Victoria Supermarket near Kurt apartments and never had a problem and I was always convinced they were genuine as I couldn't tell the difference. I am going to keep hold of them and when I go back in June the guy in this supermarket is going to have them thrown back on his counter.
