HELP! I'm really confused with currency

Postby Laura_Sheffield » 31 Jul 2009 23:16

Evening everyone!

I'm wondering if you can help me. I fly out to Turkey for my first ever visit on Monday 10th August. I'm well excited! However, I'm getting myself into a bit of a confuddled mess.

I've saved my pennies for my holiday money, although I don't know which to take with me. I've heard many different tales of taking US Dollars, Euros, Sterling cash, all Liera or Sterling Travellers Cheques. I feel more at ease with travellers cheques, but I wanna access my money easily. What do you guys recommend to get the most from my money, and for a nice easy relaxed time in Icmeler?

Oh yeah, I'm staying at the Palm Garden Apart Hotel if that helps your advice!

Cheers Laura x

If you feel more at ease with travellers cheques then take them,I havnt taken them myself for the last couple of years but I found no problem exchanging them at the mini markets,I now always take cash and pay for safety box.I usually take about £50 in Turkish Lira to start off with, and then exchange my money in the small shops, you will get a much better rate in them than in the UK,dont worry, just dont change a load of money over here before you go.

Treat Turkey as you would going to Greece by taking Sterling Travellers Cheques and/or Pound notes. There are Banks and Money Exchanges for converting into T.Lira but you find that the supermarkets offer a better deal.
Do'nt forget on entry at the Airport Immigrations you need a single £10 note per person to pay for a Visa.

We went to the Palm Garden last August. We took a bit of lira some english cash and the rest in trav cheques. Change your cheques in the little supermarkets as other people have said, you can change them at the palm garden but you won't get such a good rate. When you come out of the palm round the corner you will see the Elvis bar a few yards down fom there is a little supermarket, we changed all our cheques there. We spent 2 grand over 2 weeks 2 adults and 2 kids and we didn't scrimp. We ate out every night and drunk like fishes. Have a great time, then again you're going to the Palm so I know you will, it's a fantastic place.
