Coming Back

Postby barney1uk » 28 Jul 2009 11:56

Hi all,

I am a newbie to the forum so be gentle with me.

I holidayed in Icmeler a long time ago about 10 years ago and have decided to re-book for the family for next year (14 JUNE 2010). (Mrs doesnt know yet the world cup starts 10th June 2010)

It will be my partners (Carol) and sons (Josh) 1st trip to Turkey and are both looking forward to it.

I have booked 2 weeks at the palm gardens appartments and can not wait :)

I would like to know if Icmeler has changed much in the last 10 years?

Also what are you views on the Palm Gardens?

Thanks,

Barney.

I cant answer any of your questions as I have only been going for 3 years to Icmeler and I have never stayed at the Palm Gardens, but I am sure your Wife and Son will have a blast.

Welcome to the forum though and I hope you all have a super holiday.

Hi there. We are going on 12 June 2010 and have been to Icmeler about 16 times now. I wouldn't say it's changed all that much. A bit bigger than 10 years ago with more pubs and restaurants. You won't have to worry about watching the worl cup as the turkish are football mad and every bar, restaurant, hotel. etc will have it on the telly. I don't know if Turkey are in it this time but if they are it will be absolutely mad when they are playing and every time they win a game the place goes wild. I'm sure you and your family will have a fabulous time.

I am trying to sort our holiday around the world cup, got to talk my bosses into letting me have 3/4 weeks paid leave all at once. Could be difficult as i only get 4 weeks hols a year and need to save one week for Xmas, this does not leave me any left for the Sept holiday :(

I also planned our wedding and honeymoon around the Euro Championships thinking England would qualify along with Turkey - a great combination, so what happened - We did not make the grade, was gutted but enjoyed supporting Turkey so much, had a brill holiday.

As it happens we were in Icmeler for both of Englands World Cup qualifying games in June and are back again for both of Turkey's qualifying games in Sept, i call that brilliant planning lol

Since you were in Icmeler 10 years ago the biggest change to the place has to be the expansion of the holiday accommodation in the Old Village area. The Old part as was has just about disappeared being bulldozed to the ground, jumping rapidly from the 19th centuary into the 21st. New roads have replaced the narrow winding tracks that wandered you between the ancient buildings and small farms.
In the Icmeler centre buildings have been added giving alot more restuarants, the road are now concrete blocks instead of tarmac or dust and the path along the sea front is a paved walkway. You will notice many changes when you return but once back you will not beable to stop yourself coming back again and again.Still the number one resort .....John
