Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

Hi all,
just wondered if forum members could give me their opinion or advice on this.

My son who has been to Turkey a number of times with us now wants to book a holiday for next year with a bunch of his friends. Him and his friends will be 17 year olds next year.

My questions are:- 1. Would you allow him to go on holiday with friends
even though he will be under eighteen
2. Would he be able to find accomodation as there
will be a bunch of them with no adult

I am a little worried because all you seem to hear about these days is teenagers getting drunk and inappropriate behaviour. He is a good lad but who knows what will happen when with friends and left to their own devices.

I can't answer question 2 but for question 1:

Eighteen is just a number and it depends on how mature he is. There are many 20+ year old men who shouldn't be allowed out on their own and a 17 year old has just sailed single handed round the world. Your son will be old enough to drive a car, join the army, get married, leave home etc. He could get into just as much trouble at home. The fact that you are asking suggests that you are willing to "let go" so do that and trust him.

if hes normally well behaved Im sure he be ok,,
as for having too much to drink my mum and dad went wild in turkey and there in there 70,s
im very much a rebel if Im told i cant I do, If im told ok then then I dont
try not too worry im sure he be okay

It's hard isn't it?!?! I do wonder if the dilemma is.. would you stop him even if you could??
If they are determined to go, I reckon they could do far worse than go to Icmeler!

I've been in your position and to be honest, I found it's more a case of negotiating with them - if they are dead set on going, why not see if they'll agree to choose somewhere like Icmeler where they are relatively safe from themselves rather than say Marmaris or heaven forbid somewhere like Faliraki used to be?

Tough times for you, but he's practically an adult - good luck and let us know how you go on

Why not do what we did, both of you go same time but book into different
hotels, that way they have their independence and your close at hand if needed.

Just a word of warning - you might find quite a few holiday firms won't accept a booking unless there is at least one person aged 18 or over in the party. I know my daughter and her friends found that when they were planning on a girls' holiday together last year.

I had my first girls holiday when i was 17-18...
Never had any trouble...but they do say girls are more behaved then guys hahahah Joke boys!!!!

But i shouldnt see there being any trouble...if as you say they are well behaved.
Its better for him to have his holiday with the boys in a place that you know...instead of the rowdy destinations!

Like Lynda says why dont you book like a holiday around the same time

Good idea Lynda. Perhaps that would be the best compromise. We have got 2 weeks booked in September next year and I know him and his friends only want to go to Icmeler for a week. So perhaps I can persuade him to go one of the weeks we are there.
That way we can stay in different places but we'll be around just in case were needed
Have to have a talk with him about it.

On a lighter note - you could always suggest he reads "Midnight Express" before he goes!

You get the best of both worlds. If you dont go then you will be a taxi service to and from the airport plus you will have hefty phone bill.
