Who likes or dislikes the Turkish spirit Raki what do you think about it and what mixer do you have with it - water - sprite - or anything else.

I like Raki but I cant drink it regularly. When I do drink it, I either have it with water or with Cherry Juice.

I got drunk on Pernod when i was 16 so any aniseed spirit brings back bad memories, so i avoid....unless its on the house, then it would be rude to turn away hospitality....

I love it with sprite but funnilly enough I only drink it in Turkey. I've never brought a bottle home with me as I don't think it would taste the same on a cold miserable night.

Love raki with glass of water sip one, sip the other although on my last holiday in May I was challeged to drink the whole glass in one. Which I did! The same as an earlier poster never bring a bottle home and never drink it here. Not the same as relaxing in Icmeler. Roll on five weeks and its back to paradise.

I'm with jozzyd on this one! Can't stand the smell or taste of Raki - I remember my dad bringing some from after a business trip to Turkey when I was about 12 or 13 - even then the smell was horrible!

Should have said two is my limit as well. Could not drink it all night although some Raki is a lot stronger than others.

Never tried Raki in Turkey but did so in Crete a few years ago. A couple from the apartments had been to a restaurant and were given a bottle of, probably, the bathtub stuff and I tried a drop -disgusting and I normally quite like aniseed based drinks.
My worst experience of an after-dinner freebie came in Portugal. Now I can happily eat almonds as a nut but hate its extracted essence. Fortunately I got the smell first so down it went in one and I had enough wine and coffee left to take away the aftertaste!

Like Eric the Viking I had a bad experience with Pernod when I was a teenager, but I can manage a few Raki on holiday though
I prefer it straight with a small piece of ice

I can't drink it unless I've had a fair bit to drink and finish the night off with a Raki and cherry juice but as a rule I don't like it.

Had an extremely bad night on Raki in 2002 and the mother of all hangovers the following morning, I have drank it again once in 2006 out of politeness at a business meal in Istanbul but now tend to stay away from the stuff, my own stupid fault, have the same issue with Southern Comfort from being stupid nearly 30 years ago,
