thought i would try and learn a few words before going back in september got a menu from one of the resturants on the back it has some simple words to pick up but its hard anyone else had a go

I have been speaking some Turkish for the last 4 years Lynn and the Turkish/Kurdish people love it when you try to speak their language.

Bearing that in mind, there is always the odd exception, I said Merhaba (hello) to someone one day and he replied that he was Kurdish and he wouldn't speak Turkish, I thought this was very rude seeing as I was on holiday in Turkey.

Keep at it Lynn and have some fun along the way learning the language.

I'd love to learn Turkish, but I believe it's not the easiest of languages to pick up, and there don't seem to be any classes - not in this area anyway.

Hi Blondie there are classes in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Edinburgh may be handier for you. If you are interested let me know and I will PM you the details. Im just waiting for the next lot of classes to start, Ill be fluent soon haha

turkish is such a hard language to learn especially when the turkish speak it so fast
i have an english friend that lives in icmeler with her turkish fiancee and she said to me last year that she has been learning turkish for 5 years and can speak it well now but she still cant understand what her fiancee's family say when they are all there as they just speak too fast

If its any incentive, we have managed to successfully taught our dog to 'sit' in turkish & we are going to learn him more turkish words ready for when we move over there

There is a free Turkish vocabulary programme you can download - its called "before you know it 3.6" .

It not only teaches you the words, spells them, but it also has pronounciations.

That's good when you can actually hear how the words are pronounced - it's often quite different from how they look written down!
Wouldn't want to offend anyone by accidentally saying the wrong thing...

Indeed.

Don't forget, the Spanish for "good evening", is very very similar to the Spanish for "nice bum"
Who knows what we might say if we get it wrong

It's such a flippin difficult language!!! I run the all the names of the animals for example, go back to the test part, and bugger me, I've forgotten them all again

hi glasgow girl, where is the turkish classes in Glasgow? I have been looking around to no avail. Been trying to teach myself but think a class would be better
