Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

Hi all,
Flying out on the 3rd Aug for the 15th year, just wondering where in central Icmeler we can get really good Turkish food?
We will have to try and keep the kids (1 aged 11 and 1 aged 7) happy so wil also need some sort of burgers, pizza or spag bol on the menu.
Have heard that the Kerem on the canal is good which we will try, just thought 'is there any others'? If I remember there is a very small place around the corner from the main taxi rank in town has anyone eaten there.
Need a good meze and at least some sort of guvec or other Turkish (not made up for the grockles) food.

try the Karem on the canal real turkish food & the sweets are to die for all homemade apparently Rose's cafe in old town is believed to be excellent we keep saying we will try it maybe this year

The Kerem on the canal is excellent - the owner and her family are lovely and make you feel like part of their family. The food is excellent - the cheesecake in particular is to die for!

hey fbc, 15th year visiting Icmeler and YOU are asking US?!?

there are quite a few Pide places sprinkled around - some on the way to the old village up the side of Azra jewellers in the main square [heading towards Romance] and others on the Marmaris road [in either direction]

there are also some great kebab places around the back of the Alinda [near Buffalo and Champion Bars]

they don't usually serve alchohol though, but the locals tend to eat in them too which speaks volumes I reckon!!

I would have thought though that the Karem on the canal serve alchohol though - we're going to give it a try this year

We also intend on finding typical turkish restaurants. Last month, we were staying in turtutreis, near bodrum, and found a wonderful turkish restaurant. The food was fantastic, despite the fact my husband nearly fell of his chair when he was told 'no alcohol'.

He must have really enjoyed the food, because we went back three or four times

and how could I forget to mention Rose's which we finally found last year thanks to Helen's fantastic directions
somenone's mentioned another great Turkish place not far from Ozzies in the old village, so will have to find that too this year!

Yes I know we have been for 15 years!!!
But we usually find a few good places to eat and stick to them. The Bamboo has been very good over the years and we had made some good friends there - most of which haved moved on with some living here in the UK. The Waterfall was good as was the Florida. We perfer the quiet places but over the years Icmeler has lost quite a few good Turkish eating houses, we are not one for fish & chips or roast dinners etc and want to get bact to basics. We still finish the evening with a quiet Efes in the Magic Garden just to wind the kids down before we go back to the apartments.
We could'nt make it last year so it will be interesting to see what has changed.

I know just what you mean about finding great places and sticking to them too!
We found huge changes in our fave places last year, and it did make a difference to our holiday - suppose a change is as good as a rest though.

My turn to ask you now ............. just where is the Magic Garden? Have heard great things about it and despite directions having been posted before, we can never manage to find it
I think it's behind the Lighthouse somewhere, but can you please give us a clue as to where?

It is pretty much behind the Lighthouse - just walk round the corner where the Golden Moon is and the Magic Garden is just down to the right at the other end of that wee road.

Duh!! What is the Magic Garden? I am staying at the lighthouse again and ive never seen nor heard of this place. Is it good for hyper kids who really need to wind down before bed time????

We found the Magic Garden last year. If you walk down pass where the Golden Moon used to be, turn right at the end of that road and just basically follow the road, and you will find it on the corner on the left side. It is not very big, but is very quaint and quiet/relaxing with low background music. It is typically turkish. The only problem was that they served the beer in the dreaded plastic glasses!! Hope to God they are not being used this summer.

Hope you can all find it, as its well worth a visit.

Hello Helen,The large plastic glasses used at the Magic Garden are insulated to keep your iced cool beer colder for longer.Standard glasses are all so used,we find the place very peaceful ideal for sitting and talking. John

Yes I'm aware of that but my OH maintains that there is nothing better than a freezing glass from the freezer to compliment the Efes. Do you agree? We will be in Icmeler from the 30th July to the 21st August and no doubt will visit the Magic Garden on numerous occasions.
