Advice - how to cope with the heat?

Postby 4wilts » 14 Jun 2009 22:18

We are arriving in Icmeler on 24th July until 10th August, been to Icmeler once before May time, not quite sure how we will cope in the heat this time. Any good advice, already bought plenty of factor 50 suncream one son aged 13 burns easily, both boys love the beach and the water. thanks, Jenny.

Main thing is drinking water and lots of it, we have two daughters and had to drag them out of the pool to make sure they drank enough, don't let them just drink pop. During the day I have a small bottle of water between every beer.

Last year walking around Marmaris castle and a long the prom we must have drank two litres each in about 90 minutes just to replace the loss through sweating.

You will be amazed how quickly you get used to the heat.

to be honest it takes 1 or 2 days to get used to the heat, well it does us...

so, we take it easy the first few days, you have to consider heat stroke, as well as dehydration, so hats on or in the shade sometimes, keep dipping in the pool for a cool down. take some rehydration sachets with you, if you dont use them, leave them at the ICR office for the girls.

we have gone to turkey for the last 3 summers, and never suffered from the heat, but we have been careful and adjusted our bodies slowly..

i lose my appetite when it hot, but it doesnt worry me,i have to make sure i drink plenty, my 13 year old doesnt bother at all, she doesnt seem to notice the heat.

just be sensible.....

ps, we are there from 20 july....i shall give you a wave if we see you

I think the best advice is that you be sensible. Early morning is the best time to walk etc and maybe stay around the pool. Gets really hot after lunch, and this is the most dangerous time of day. We usually stay in the bar after lunch or maybe have a short walk to the old village. Its then time for a siesta at about four o'clock until six, before showering and getting ready to go out. So all in all be careful and you will be fine.
We will also be in Icmeler from the 29th July to the 22nd August.

Have a lovely holiday.

Another thing is to get into the shade especially between 12.00-16.00 hrs but be warned the sun rays are strong enough to penertrate the sun shades so plenty of lotion often John

As well as all the other advice, i'd also recommend making sure that Hats are worn, and try to keep the sun off the back of your necks.

Normally when i'm there my holiday consists of sitting with my legs dangling in the pool keeping my feet cool, with a bottle of water at the side of me and my book with a hat on.

dont worry your body will adapt to the heat better than you think after the first couple of days
just make sure your always drinking water and that you dont stay out in the sun too long
and in the heat of the day go in the shade for a couple of hours
hope this helps
