Just booked our flights for next summer and noticed the luggage allowance has gone down from 20kgs to 15kgs......whats happening here?? Looks like they are following in the footsteps of T*****s C**k.
Is there any way you can pay for more allowance??

Someone did ring up Aegean and it's currently not an option.

Aegean say you can't buy more luggage allowance in advance, the only way around it is to pay the excess baggage charge at check-in.

I have read somewhere that they are only offering 15kg free if you book your 2010 flights before 1st July - after this date there is no free allowance...

thats why we did not book with them as there was no option for extra luggage, probably cost a fortune when you get to the airport, another way of them making money.

i booked with a company who does Onur air flights, sames times as Aegean and got 20Kg

If the airline policy is 15 k you will find that that is it no matter what companies say on the phone. I had the same problem with T***** R****** they told me it was 20kg but tickets said 15 I argued that it was in breach bla bla but waste of time, 15 it was.

mine is definatley 20kg I asked them to email it to me and i will take it to the airport as proof if they put 15 on my tickets

We are also booked for summer 2010 and are disappointed in the 15kg allowance. However, this will make me more careful about what I pack as often I come back with items that have never been worn!

well i think the loss of 5 kilos with Aegean is worth it for the great price for our flights for next year. If i need some flexibility for the allowance i will just buy all of my toiletries at the airport instead of putting them in our cases. That's usually the stuff that weighs a ton on it's own anyway!

yeah its so they can offer the cheaper prices with less luggage allowance
however TC have put their allowance up to 20kgs but you have to purchase it
otherwise you get no luggage apart from one piece of hand luggage so its leaving people with no option

when i went to book with aegean the flight was £170 with the agent I went with it was £200 so the extra £30 I paid for ther flight guarantees that i have enough luggage allowance at 20kg, you just dont know what they will charge next year for excess this year it is £5 per kg, so I am happy with paying that little bit more :)

Totally agree. Toileteries and also sun tan lotions take up a lot of the allowance and of course the weight of the empty case to start with. We are going for 3 weeks but as ochlynda says theres always the laundry.

I spoke to Aegean today and they said the charge is £5 per kilo, I may email them and ask for that in writing, basically for the 7 of us to get back to the 20KG limit it will cost us £350.

I can't understand why they don't have an upgrade option, I am sure people would purchase it thus increasing their revenue far more than the people they catch over the limit.

doesn't make sense does it? we're going to spain in july with ryanair, even they only charge £20 per person for 15kg hold luggage extra, but you can still take 10kg on the plane aswell! and their flights are very cheap, so £20 per person still reasonable. I think some airlines are losing the plot and money grabbing without thinking through the facts.
