Sterling withdrawals / ICR trips

Hi All,

Had a good scan through the forum and couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

I am thinking of taking one day worth of lira and the rest in sterling as advised. However, I don't feel totally comfortable travelling with that amount of money in cash, so I was thinking of taking my bank cards with me to make sterling withdrawals from one of the machines mentioned in another thread.

What I would like to know is;

Will I get charged for withdrawing sterling abroad? (Halifax PLC)

and

Can I pay for day trips with ICR in sterling?

Thanks

PMC :)

You'll more than likely be charged per cash widrawal through ATM machines - I'd advise taking travellers cheques (sterling ones) as well as Lira/£ notes.
Travellers cheques can be cashed in supermarkets. Makes sense, and if anything happens, ie you lose them or they get nicked you can get them replaced and it won't ruin your hol!
Most shops/restaruants take card payments too.

Nationwide don`t charge in europe and count Turkey as `in europe` they will charge outside this area but only about 1%. Still cheaper and better rates from Atms.
