Many of you have visited many different bars, majority with similar decorations and atmospheres, the others with own themes and entertainment.

What is it that makes you to decide to go in to any given bar? What do you look for when choosing a bar and what are the most important determinants that take you back there?

Friendliness of the staff , comfort , and a warm atmosphere with some form of entertainment and dont forget good prices.
thats what makes us return.
But we thought you and John would be experts on bars and what makes you go back

First thing for me is they have to sell Effes on draught,odd bottle is ok but for a night out it has to be the good old pint.
Good staff is a must.

I agree with Alec and Lyn. The friendliness of the staff is the main reason we return to the same bars all the time. Good food, good company and a few Effes and we are in heaven

Agree with most people but good value and good choice of food tops our list, especially being a family of 4. It can become quite expensive sometimes when we eat out. Diane

Friendliness, is the main reason we like a place. Usually we travel in a large group and Turkish people are usually so friendly and warm, if we dont feel that after our fist drink, we leave. Only had to do that oce though!

staff are a major attraction! but its nice to have somewhere a bit different in style. many look the same! no more 'english bars' !!! keep it turkish good food, plenty of cocktails!

Yeah the friendliness of the staff means a lot, combined with reasonable prices and good food. Also something to keep the kids occupied is a bonus.

Same as everyone else, somewhere where you can go and have a chat, a laugh, a good drink and at reasonable prices ... like your "local"

Yeh,I agree with what everyone has said about good food ,friendly staff,good value,etc etc,but in the first instance,its all about not being hassled and forced into a place.I like to make my own mind up about a place,and the biggest turn off for me,is to be hassled by the tout.Sometimes,they dont know when to give up with the hasseling,you say politely"no thank you",and they keep shouting to you as you're walking away.now that turns me right off.but ,if they accept a "Not tonight Thank you"then I will deffo come back and give them a try,if I like the look of the place.

Agree with the hassle thing Debi. They even hassled us last year when they can obviously see that you have just eaten at the bar next door and they still try and get you to "come and eat" at thier place. Hopefully, if what I have heard on another forum is correct, the local council are trying to stop this type of hasseling. Di.

Hi,Diane,That would be fantastic if the hasseling could be stopped,cos you get fed up constantley saying no,I actually just ignored one bloke last year,and walked on,he started shouting after me that I must be German because I was ignorant!!!!Cheek!!He then told me not to bother ever going to his restaurant,he didnt want me there.I'm afraid I did the unlady like thing and shouted back to him that his place would be the last place on earth I'd ever go.I was so annoyed with myself for bringing myself down to his level,but he was so nasty.Looking forward to that then.Thanks for that Di.

Hi all, first post. Firstly if you are passing a bar and it looks lively with a good atmosphere then you shouldn't need anyone to hassle passers - by. Personally speaking, I would voluntarily go into that bar. Then perhaps someone to show you to your seat and take your order of reasonably cheap beer/drinks/food . Staff friendly (I found that most Turkish people are) and up for a laugh . Then I would return to that bar again. I look forward to finding such a bar in June (10th - 24th).

Hi George,You will find an abundance of really good bars,were the service is as you described,I found that it's the quieter resraurants in town that do the harrassing,the really good ones don't need to,and be reassured,there are sooo many of them.

Hi everybody

Can you go into bars just for a drink or are you ecpected to buy a meal?

You will in the Chill bar, all of the above - friendly, reasonably priced, and definately up for a laugh - have a good time!

i like a bar where the staff are friendly and my husband likes his efes in a glass that has been in the freezer. i don't like to be hassled and if i give a polite refusal i have always been treated respectfully.
i also like to be able to go into a bar and not feel guilty just having a drink even if we had a meal there the night before, we go on holiday to go to different places and don't want to feel like a traitor if we don't always eat at the same place. sometimes we spend more money on drink than a meal!!

All of the above and Comfort. I hate perching on rock hard seats or having to climb up to bar stools. I also like a bar that you can sit and watch the world go by, not closed in. Plus good music as in no bang bang beloved of some Turkish bars
