Icmeler pre 2005

Hi guys

Was just wondering if any of you guys have been to Icmeler prior to 2005. I visited in around May '03 and noticed that the forum only dates back to 2005 and just wondered if anyone had any stories etc from this period, found some old pics at home and have been reminiscing.........

first visit to icemeler was 1992 stayed in the sungar (now the sun i believe) next to the private hotel. there is a row of little houses running down away from the private hotel. the first house was been developed and i had the offer to buy it for £9000 but turned it down. biggest mistake of my life. it is next to bar which wasnt built then.
efes was 24p a bottle and there was very little developement up in the old village. you could walk around what was then the resort quite easily in 30mins. what a difference it made to our lives never ever get sick of going back to the place

I first went in 1998 and the road where the dolmas's leave (by the marbas) was old turkish houses, there were no resturants along there, I remember getting stuck looking for new restaurants to try as there were very few off them then

first time i went to icmeler was in 2002 (i think)
it was so different then
many new bars and restaurants have opened and there are so many more tourists that come now
glad we went in 2002 cause otherwise we wouldnt of found our 2nd home

This is my first time to icmeler having been a marmaris lover for so many years, really looking forward to popping down the office and booking a boat trip and other stuff if the wife lets me have some money. lol

Yeah i first visited Icmeler when i was just 13 in 1998..we stayed in the Sahara apartments ...very very basic and the reception area was just a table n chairs with a curtain pulled across...but didnt stop us visiting for the next 11 years!!
Aparts are just at the back of the Marti--and one night we had gone to Marmaris,got a taxi back and trying to explain where the apartments where,well we told the taxi driver to go to the back of Marti-not thinking he would actually drive us in there,then the gate comes across and we were locked in!!!!!!! My aunty was nearly climbing the gates to get out haha--but we soon located someone to let us out!!!

Korsan bar was one of the main places for us that year,was so so busy everynight...
Venice back then was 2 restaurants Manolya and Venedik, was also a restaurant to the right of there too--cant for the life of me remember the name!

Cant remember what year it was,but we stayed in the Golmar the year there was the big earthquake in Istanbul...well we were oblivious to it all only to wake up with a massive crack down the middle of the hotel!!!!!

Our first holiday was in 1993, we stayed at The Babadan Hotel. Been back about 15 times since and also had holidays elsewhere in between. I do think that it was best about late 1990's early 2000's, but places & people change. We are there in August for 18 days, but don't know about next year?

Hi our first visit to icmeler was in 1995 we stayed at the Rally Hotel which now is ICR Offices the rally swimming pool is still there. The bar in front of the hotel was called the Magic Ivy the guy who used to welcome you was Eroll he was a great guy used to wear a white cowboy hat and boy did he love himself lol. Rod myself and my brother Gary went this year we had a stroll to the old village up a dirt track 2 shaves 3 massages 1 hairdo 6 beers cant remember how many cigarettes cost us £4.00. cant remember how many lira. Venice was than Venedics the owner was Rambo we have so many memorable times there . They used to give you so many free drinks when you paid your bill you was there another couple of hours.Things have changed a lot in Icmeler not always for the best but hey thats life. We still love Icmeler returning again Sept 6th this will be our 9th time in Icmeler 16th visit to turkey been to hisaronu, obakoy, never had a bad holiday in Turkey but love Icmeler the most Its like going home . they never forget you Always a warm welcome in more ways than one roll on Sept. sad thing is, i don't even recall the name of the hotel i stayed in, met some great characters though....i'll have to try and see if i can get the pics online, see if any of the people jog anyone's memory....watch this space!!!!

Hi Clara, I seem to recall that there was an earlier forum that this one replaced - the old one used to freeze when there were too many Emoticons [those picture thingys] posted and Admin used to ask people to please not use so many - not a problem any more

I love reading about olden-day memories and how Icmeler's changed over the years - have you seen the old pictures in the Gallery from 1980s?? fantastic!

Fancy giving us a clue where you stayed on your first visit - maybe we can remember the name of it for you?!
