Hope this doesn't effect anybody on this forum but i've just heard tonight that Freedom Direct has now ceased trading - as of today.

Fingers crossed that this is the last flight company to go bust.

Cheers John

That will be me then, brilliant!!

Anyone got any advice for me? I'm hoping Avro will still honour my flight so I will just need to arrange accomodation and transfer with ICR

Thanks Alison

I hope you all get your holidays sorted out - just amazed that nothing about this has been reported in the news.

Good luck
John

Hi,
I booked my accomadation and transfer through Freedom Direct for july. I had my vouchers as i had paid in full so i called hotels4u to find out if they are going to honour my booking. I have to wait until they call me to see if i have to claim money back from credit card or if i can still use vouchers.
I had booked through them as it was a reasonable price as i am going alone.

Theresa
PS Freedom Direct acting as agent only.

Hi Theresa,

I'm not sure who my hotel was booked through, I know my flight was through Avro and I have paid the holiday in full to Freedom about three weeks ago. If Avro will honour my flight I'll happily book accomodation with ICR as the flights were a good price at the time of booking. Ah well it will have to wait till Monday as all my emails are on my computer at work and I've come to Morcambe for the weekend with my parents.

Thanks everyone, Dotty I hope you get sorted soon. And
thanks John for posting or else I wouldn't have known anything about it! Alison

It is terrible news for anyone that booked with the company.

If you had paid your holiday in full and THEY had paid in full for your holiday then I think you are in with a chance of getting your flight.

There are people still waiting for their monies back from the excel saga last year.

One point I will make is that people were calling me to book holidays and were mentiomimg this company and their prices and I told them it could not be done at the rates they were charging.

There are overheads for everyone in the travel industry and if you don't cover them then yes you will go under.

I hope everyone gets sorted before they are due to fly and if anyone needs any help with anything then get in touch with us

Well its also happened to me.
Booked my flight through Freedom Direct Flying with TC.
The friends we are going with have already received thier e-tickets just after booking a couple of months ago,but I booked mine last May and was to have received my tickets via post in the next three weeks.
I Cannot contact anybody now till Monday.
My tickets have been paid for in full and I assume TC have received the money from FD,only trouble now is FD wont be issueing my tickets unless they come direct from TC.

Biteing my nails now to see if we are still going on holiday on the 23rd May :(

I hope everyone gets sorted, apparently on a thread on Holiday Truths here it says they have not renewed their ATOL coverage so anyone who has booked in the last three weeks will not be covered since the ATOL expired.

There is a link to this on HT website and it gives the numbers FD customers need to ring. I can't post a link but if you go onto Turkey forum, at the very top of the page is 'travel firms in crisis' it's on there and it sounded positive so good luck everyone.

Oh Gene I can sympathise with you, I'm lucky in that I only paid £38 deposit for accommodation with them for Sept so not a lot to lose. I hope you get it sorted out on Monday - good luck. x

Sorry to hear that gene, did you pay buy credit card because if its not atol protected anymore i think you can claim back on the credit card, hope you get it sorted soon your holiday so close but so far away :(

Gene will be protected as he booked while they had ATOL cover, my understanding is that it's only people who have booked in the last three weeks that will have a problem.

I am so sorry for you all and feel for you but have faith and I am sure it will all work out for you. The same thing happened to us last year, we only found out the night before we were due to travel that the company we were travelling with had gone bust. With the help of Icmeler Online & literally only hourse to go before we were due to travel it all worked out in the end and we got our holiday. We also got our money back eventually but it was very stressful at the time so GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL CONCERNED and hope it all works out,

Carol

due to go out in 4 weeks with freedom direct and this is terrible news

Now I have booked wqith them and they have booked flights with Goldtrail for me and accomadation through another company. On the ATOL website it states that,

Freedom Direct Holidays was also a travel agent selling flights, accommodation and packages on behalf of airlines, tour operators and accommodation suppliers. These arrangements are not covered by Freedom Direct’s ATOL

I assume that reading this I may not be covered under ATOL, so do I have any chance of getting my money back. What is ABTA

I paid by credit card woud this cover any chance of getting the money back
